Among three Grizzlies with two hits each, Copeland reached base three times, and Burriss had his first multi-hit game in four games with the Grizzlies. Gillespie, who had 39 AB with the Diamondbacks earlier this year, had his 5th HR of the year while reaching base three times.
Making his fourteenth start this year, Hacker allowed a new season-high 9 R, with 6 ER raising his ERA above 4.00. Paterson, who had allowed at least one hit in nine of his last ten appearances, pitched two perfect innings.

Maday bounced back from his shortest start of the year with another quality start, but he still suffered the loss for the third time in his last five starts. After allowing just 8 ER through his first nine starts, he has allowed 11 ER over his last five starts. His ERA now stands just above 2.00. Sisco allowed a hit to each of the three batters he faced in the 8th inning leading to three insurance runs. His H/IP is now above 1.00.
A+: San Jose lost to Lake Elsinore 10-0
San Jose: 2B Charlie Culberson: 2 for 4, SO, SB
Lake Elsinore: DH Cody Decker: 3 for 4, HR, 2B, BB, SO
San Jose: SP Justin Fitzgerald: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K--1 WP
San Jose: RP Brian Anderson: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
San Jose: RP Jason Stoffel: 1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K--1 HR, 1 WP
Lake Elsinore: SP Anthony Bass: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K
Culberson had two of the Giants' four hits, raising his AVG to .308. Decker, a late round pick by the Padres out of UCLA a year ago, had a big game, including his 14th HR.
Fitzgerald suffered his first loss in a dozen starts. After issuing just 10 BB in his first eight starts, he has issued 14 BB in his last four starts. Tonight was still better than his previous start (7 ER in 4.0 IP), which had been his worst start of the year. Anderson and Stoffel gave up seven more runs in relief. Both pitchers have ERAs above 5.00. With an ERA above 6.25, is Stoffel still among the Giants top 30 prospects? Bass, who just missed the Padres' top 30 prospects list as compiled by Baseball America, had perhaps his best start of the year. He struck out more than half of the seventeen batters he faced.
A-: Augusta defeated Savannah 7-1
Augusta: DH Nick Liles: 3 for 4, CS
Augusta: 1B Luke Anders: 3 for 4
Augusta: 2B Ryan Cavan: 2 for 4, HR, SO
Augusta: SS Ydwin Villegas: 0 for 4, 3 SO
Savannah: 3B Jefry Marte: 2 for 3, 2B, BB, SO
Augusta: SP Jorge Bucardo: 6.0 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--1 WP
Augusta: RP Jose Casilla: 1.0 IP, 2 K
Cavan's 3rd HR of the year was a grand slam with two outs in the 7th inning. Liles and Anders, who each had three hits, are the two GreenJackets with AVGs of .300 or better. The stats suggest that Villegas is overmatched in the Sally League as after tonight's oh-fer with the hat trick he has 5 H and 13 SO in 32 AB (.156 AVG). The Mets' Marte, who will celebrate his 19th birthday on Monday, reached base three times, but his OPS remains just below .700 in his second SAL season.
Despite allowing a season-high 9 H, Bucardo allowed just 1 ER in 6.0 IP, his fifth straight start with 1 ER or less. His ERA is now just 1.57 through thirteen starts. Even with the season-high 9 H, his BAA remains below .200. After 2 K in a perfect 9th inning, Casilla's peripheral stats are now 15 H, 10 BB, and 25 K in 27.2 IP.

Salem-Keizer: RP Kaohi Downing: 1.0 IP, 3 K
Burg, the Giants' 24th rounder a year ago, homered in his pro debut. Serving as the Volcanoes' clean-up hitter, he was also their only hitter to reach base twice.
Rogers, the Giants' 25th rounder a year ago, took the loss in the opening night assignment. He had a 7.54 ERA in the NWL last summer, pitching primarily in relief. Downing, the Giants' 50th rounder last year who pitched in relief in the AZL after signing, struck out all three batters he faced in his NWL debut.

After reaching base three times, Fuentes (17.6 y.o.) is hitting .327/.424/.491 through his first 55 pro AB. He has a seven-game hitting streak currently, although just 2 XBH among his 11 H in that time span. Despite not allowing an earned run, Gregorio (18.5 y.o.) suffered the first lost of his pro career. This was also his first start (of four) without a walk.
