It would seem a little odd to not have a main page thread on the Angel Villalona accusations, so this is kind of an open thread/link dump. I can't even formulate an opinion on this. It's probably a story that's so horrible it transcends any trival thoughts of baseball, signing bonuses, and minor league systems. I'm still holding out for the 1% chance that because we're hearing the story through an international game of telephone, the real story is far less sinister. It sure doesn't sound good though, and it makes my stomach turn.
- Here's the standard account from the Mercury News, with some quotes from players.
- Over at sfdugout.com, Brute has a recap of links and opinion pieces.
- One of the more interesting links I've read from a human interest standpoint is at Garrett Broshius's blog: Life in the Minors: Villalona: teammate turned murder suspect
This might be the worst news I've ever heard as a Giants fan, and I can't imagine what the folks close to the Augusta and San Jose organizations are feeling.
