Two changes to the big roster picture:
- Dave Roberts is gone
- During yesterday's game, Sabean hinted to Jon Miller that an 11-man pitching staff is a possibility.
There should probably be a 2a: Josh Phelps has had a whopping eight at-bats so far, so he's probably not being looked at as a serious contender for a roster spot. Here's a revised guess at the Opening Day roster:
Certain:
Molina
Ishikawa
Renteria
Sandoval
Winn
Rowand
Lewis
Schierholtz
Probable:
Aurilia
Velez
Uribe
Holm
Frandsen
Maybe:
Burriss
Andres "2nd-most-spring-at-bats-on-the-team" Torres
Bowker
Jesus Guzman
Probably not, even if he makes all kinds of sense for this team:
Josh Phelps
Brian Bocock
Brian Bocock
Is this about right, or am I missing something? Are Uribe and Aurilia fighing with each other for one spot? If Sabean was serious about the 11-man staff, who do you pluck from the "maybe" category? The only one who doesn't need more seasoning in the minors is Torres, and even though he had a pretty good season for a speedy CF in AAA, he's an unknown quantity. I hate those. They make it hard to make snap judgments.
