Ted Uhlaender, one of general manager Brian Sabean's top advisers, attended the White Sox's game against the Diamondbacks in Tucson and saw third baseman Joe Crede homer off Arizona's Max Scherzer.
I made up the quote from Sabean, but it's there in the original article if you read between the lines.
"Scherzer is going to be on the Diamondbacks roster in a couple of years. So we should probably lock Crede up with a four-year deal," Sabean said. "We'll draft a second-rounder with the fifth pick, and use the savings on Crede."
