Part II of the MXVII-part miniseries, Shiny Baubles We Can Get for Noah Lowry

On MLB Trade Rumors, there was a link to an article that detailed the Cardinals search for starting pitching. The indication was that the Cardinals were willing to trade young pitchers like Anthony Reyes for more established pitching. The Giants wouldn't need to cash in their best trade chip for a young pitcher, but maybe the Cardinals would kick down some of their young hitting instead. That was the thought, at least.

But, ye gods, is the Cardinals organization in bad shape. The probable conversation between John Mozeliak and Brian Sabean:

Mozeliak: Now, we need pitching and you need young position players. What would it take to get Lowry?

Sabean: Rick Ankiel, maybe? It says here his on-base percentage is just over .300, which means he's a .300-hitter with power.

Mozeliak: Can't do it. He's a fan favorite, and we don't really have the outfield depth to replace him.

Sabean: Eh, we'd probably want more anyways. Okay, how about Chris Duncan?

Mozeliak: Can't do it. He's a fan favorite, and we don't really have the outfield depth to replace him.

Sabean: Eh, we'd probably want more anyways. Okay, how about Colby Rasmus?

Mozeliak: No.

Sabean: Have a happy holiday season.

Mozeliak: Same to you.

I started this post before I had a mock trade in mind. Now I realize that few teams match up worse with the Giants than the Cardinals, so allow me switch the focus of the post in mid-stream.

Would you trade organizations with the Cardinals right now? They have one of the top-three hitters in the game, and he's still in his 20s. They have one of the best young prospects in the game, Colby Rasmus, but almost nothing else above A-ball. They have a couple of interesting 27-year-old corner outfielders with Duncan and Ankiel. They have a couple of struggling young pitchers and almost no pitching depth.

The Giants have two of the best young pitchers in the game, but they also have one of the worst contracts in the game. They have a handful of prospects who are ready now, but project to be average at best. There is a surplus of starting pitching to trade to fill some holes, but the current offense is surely one of the worst in the game. The best prospects are several years away.

For as much as we like to rip apart the organization, there aren't too many teams that can match the Giants' rotation in either quality or depth. However, the Cardinals have a HOF-caliber hitter in the prime of his career and under contract.

No point, really. Just a case of the '02 Royals seeing how they match up with the '02 Tigers. Which organization would make for an easier rebuilding job?

Edit: Alternate comment starter, as that post was an obvious dud: What was the last album/CD you bought or downloaded? I just got "This Time Tomorrow" from The Makes Nice, and I can't stop listening to it.
