I'm going to relive the 1986 season for the Giants through the magic of Strat-O-Matic and The Sporting News. The league's site is here, and I'll be managing against other bloggers, Curt Schilling, Doug Glanville, and other assorted folks. If you've ever tried to set a Strat-O-Matic lineup with a bloody index finger, you'll have an idea of the courage this league will require. During the season, The Sporting News will run vintage articles from '86 like this cheery one.
My problem: I don't remember much about the '86 season, at least as far as the position battles, and who should have started over whom. I remember watching Will Clark's homer off of Nolan Ryan, but that's about it. I was more concerned with finding the briefcase that came with my Destro action figure. I never did. I think the dog ate it.
I do know that I'm going to have to Strat-O-Kneecap Mike Scott. I already have a call in to a guy who knows a guy.
So this is an open 1986 Giants thread. Here's the link to the Baseball Reference page for the '86 team. What should I know? What should I change?
