Tim Kawakami has an interesting piece about assistant GM possibilities for the Giants. There's too much to summarize, so just read the danged thing.
If this is true, though, it would be huge news:
My understanding is that Giants GM Brian Sabean, before receiving his two-year extension in July, tacitly agreed it was time to inject some new thinking into his front office for 2008, and that meant an assistant GM with some clout and creativity, hired from the outside.
I believe that the search is underway. Quietly. Now. Major development for the future of the Giants, by the way.
Which would be a huge departure from normal Sabean-ic manuevering and the only reason to believe Sabean might succeed in the future when the recent past has been so thoroughly lousy.
