The intrinsic format of talk radio bugs me. I don't mind the hosts; I don't mind the interviews. I mind the goofballs that call up to talk to the hosts. My guess at the breakdown is something like 84% are total morons, 14% are cell phone reception tragedies, and 2% are intelligent and charismatic callers. Maybe that's overstating the case, but the reason it bugs me so much is that lately I've been listening to a ton of KNBR. I've found that I would rather listen to a Shane Co. commercial at full volume than most of the callers.
But it's been a while since I've listened to KNBR this much, and I don't remember the hosts being so enjoyable. I love listening to Brian Murphy and Paul McCaffrey in the morning. Rod Brooks and Bob Fitzgerald have a chemistry and combined wit that I don't recall from their first go-round. Tom Tolbert has always made me laugh, and Barbieri is at least interesting in the Bruce Jenkins kind of fist-shaking way. I rarely agree with the guy, but he rarely bores me.
On the other side of the coin, I don't think Gary Radnich really likes professional sports, which is a wee bit of a problem. And Damon Bruce is an example of how politically inappropriate comments have directly impacted my life. It's just a matter of taste, I guess. Consider this an open thread to praise or denigrate the KNBR personalities of your choice. Limericks and haiku are encouraged, but not required.
