Augustacy

(knocking on door)

Noah Lowry: Who's there?

Optimism Week: Candygram.

Noah Lowry: Ooh! A candygram!

(Lowry opens the front door)

(A foam Optimism Week mauls Noah Lowry)

No more days or weeks will be devoted exclusively to optimism ever again. Ye gods.

So while I have a link to a feel-good story, I have to note that this has nothing to do with an Optimism Day, Week, Year, Epoch, or anything of the sort. It had to be said.

Here's the story - a reminder of where Giants' fans should really place their hopes in 2008. Augusta, baby. Augusta. This could be the lineup:

C: Jackson Williams
1B: Angel Villalona
2B: Nick Noonan
SS: Charlie Culberson
3B: Andrew Davis
LF: Thomas Neal
CF: Wendell Fairley
RF: Garrett Baker

SP: Madison Bumgarner
SP: Tim Alderson
SP: Waldis Joaquin
SP: Wilber Bucardo
SP: Jared Cranston

I couldn't remember who was going to be in the outfield, so I searched the site for "Augusta." This is what came up. It's basically the same damn thing I just wrote, but I'm going ahead because I don't feel like starting over.  Dammit.

Fairley might start in instructional league and progress to Salem-Keizer in July. Thomas Neal might do the same. Other than the first four players on that list, it's still up in the air. But it seems pretty clear that the Greenjackets will have the most loaded prospect roster in recent memory.

Long story short:

2008 Giants + 100 losses = Damn. That was a miserable season. What's for lunch?

2008 Augusta Greenjackets + any sort of disappointment = Tears. Car bombs. Hostages.

May they grow up to be Giants one day
Apparently there is not only golf in Augusta. An infield that plays together stays together. Looks like Big V is becoming a 1b. Read he prefers to play 1b. There is some talk Alderson may jump up to San Jose.

Villalona/1B
Too bad, but his upside really is all about the bat.  Either he hits like we hope, or he doesn't.  Still, decent defense at 3B with the package would have been nice, too.

Hang the copy desk.
On principle.  And also for letting this head/subhead go through:

Giants' infield of future features Villalona

Augusta lineup also features shortstop, 2B

I find her very annoying.  The high point of her movie career was E.T.  Geena and Susan were both pretty attractive in their younger years.  Cate is somewhat strange/unusual looking, but I wouldn't call her unattractive...

Re: Tasty Lineup
It's a sad day when we trade the beautiful, graceful, classy, talented Ms. Blanchett for a broad who has nothing going for her other than perky tits and a tight little body. And that's about to go out the window soon after she gives birth to her kiddo. Once Alba loses her figure she'll have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Read an interview with her and you'll get what I mean.

And it's okay. Really, it's okay. I used to sit in front of my TV riveted to the screen whenever Max Kellerman was on. He's loud, annoying, obnoxious, and has nothing to say ever. But damn if he doesn't look good doing it.

Re: Tasty Lineup
I like Cate Blanchett a lot, mostly based on the first Elizabeth. I think she has an other-worldly beauty that was especially appropriate for Elizabeth (and I guess the Lord of the Rings movies as well). "Reptilian" might apply more to Tilda Swinton, who looks a little like Blanchett.

I like looking at Jessica Alba as much as the next guy but, really, what's the purpose of watching her in a movie?

Re: Tasty Lineup
I agree with you and the Baroness.  There is absolutely no debating the superior acting abilities of Cate over Jessica.  That's like comparing a Rolls-Royce to a Yugo.  However, as eye-candy on a hotness meter Jessica wins, hands down.

"What's the purpose of watching her in a movie?"

I'd say "watching her" is the only purpose.  That said... she should stick to movies like Into the Blue where her "assets" can be best showcased.  The more she attempts to act, the less enamored I am becoming with her.

Re: Tasty Lineup
I posted this over on Niners Nation a hundred years ago. I want to play too, but too lazy to re-type out the list. You can substitute baseball positions in here if you really, really want to:

QB-Clive Owen
RB-LaDanian Tomlinson (yes he is a cutie and he a pretty good football player)
RB-Zach Levy
WR-Ryan Reynolds
WR-Hugh Jackman
TE-Vernon Davis (on the grounds of the Tomlinson pick: both being a good tight end and having a good tight end)
K-Christian Bale
DST-Viggo Mortensen

Bench: Anderson Cooper, Gaspard Ulliel (the dude in Hannibal Rising), James Denton

And to save you all from pulling a muscle in your rolling of eyes at me, here's a list of hot girls I fancy:

QB-Rosario Dawson
RB-Carla Gugino
RB-Olivia Wilde
WR-Morena Baccarin
WR-Gina Torres
TE-Jewel Staite (okay, basically the entire female main cast of Firefly/Serenity)
K-Rachel Bilson
DST-Amy Adams

Bench: Jenna Fischer, Mandy Moore, Sandra Oh.

Of course ... see groug's explanation above. The Tomko crush shall never die.

I did think about Wright/Reyes but ... Omar needed some love. The dancing, the tight pants, the shirts! Vance Wilson is lesser known but he wears the same kind of insane patterned shirts as Omar. Sometimes I try to get my husband to wear those kinds of patterns. I'll point one out in the J.Crew or something and go, That's cute. I think once he said one was just "too Omar."

Re: Augustacy
Beat me to it, Roger! This Andrew Davis character (if that's his real name) can't hold a candle to the Giants starting thirdbaseman in 2010, Matt Freakin' Downs!

Seriously, I would be very disappointed if Downs didn't at least end up owning 3B in Augusta. Although, heck, maybe the brass has him slotted in for 3B in San Jose. Ha! Take that, Davis!

Otoh, I'd be slightly surprised if Alderson didn't start out in San Jose.

Re: Augustacy
While the club (somewhat inexplicably) likes Rohlinger, I think you might see Downs in San Jose splitting time between 3B/1B/DH with Rohlinger and Pill. Ultimately, D'Alessio should be at 1B/DH for San Jose with Downs the regular at third. Of course, the system hasn't shown a real propensity for identifying and developing talent, so it's also possible they'd wind up with Mark Minicozzi starting in San Jose...
At 24 years old and with two professional clubs under his belt, Matt should be pushed after the year he had last season. Davis, incidentally, had a pretty solid performance in the NWL after he was their 12th-round pick, but should spend his first full season in Augusta.

At the risk of TMI, I find Kate Winslett to be totally hot, and in a way I can't quite describe. I don't think she necessarily has the "best" of any particular feature, but the total package... I am mesmerized by her onscreen.

And yes, my wife is quite aware of this.
