Can someone provide a reasonable argument for how the other Giants marketing slogan, "All Out. All Season." is NOT an indirect insult at the effort put forth by the team last season? Why not just put signs on the backs of buses that say "2008: This Year, We're Running Out Ground Balls and Not Hacking at Sliders in the Dirt"?

frankly, this typical type of attitude in baseball is garbage and insults the players from previous years, as if they weren't trying hard, and that includes Bonds, who did more work than anybody.

At least it's baseball season.

You are absolutely correct. It's a strange, strange world. I also knew a guy named Harry Dent. Not quite as poetic as Dick Butkus, or Dick Pole, or any of the ridiculously named sport folk, but still pretty interesting.

John Train's Most Remarkable Names

There's a sequel as well. The guy researched all the names to make sure they were genuine. I bought it for my wife. Her favorite is "Genghis Cohen."

Great Moments in Naming History
My ex-wife was a middle school teacher, and here are some of the great names of all time-- and I did see the class roster for verification. (Note to self: it was 14 years ago, but maybe the need for verification contributed to the demise of that relationship?)

3rd Prize:  Family surname of Lear, so of course, the parents name their daughter Crystal Shanda Lear.

2nd Prize: A summer school student's first name was LaTrine.  Yes, pronounced just like that.  I assumed she was named in honor of where she was conceived.

Grand prize:  Family surname of Cox.  The mom's name -- mind you, she married into the name, so it's just sort of coincidence -- was Candy.  Yep. Mom's name is Candy Cox.  So, of course, they have a daughter, and name her....

.... Pleasure.    That's right.  Pleasure Cox.  

And before anyone criticizes any of the naming choices any of these parents made, let me just defend them by saying that stripping is a perfectly honorable profession.

A gamer vainly attempts to run down a homer 10 rows deep in the bleachers.

A gamer won't take the lazy man's approach by knocking 40+ homers a season.  A gamer prefers to be speedy.

Gamer is a term used to try to convince you to like a player that really isn't all that good.  You are supposed to like gamers for the way they play the game, rather than how well they play the game.

Personally, I could care less if a player personally gives me the middle finger every time they come to the plate, so long as they perform well on the field.
