OT: "Vote Hope" ad on left side of this page

As some here are aware, I'm involved in the Obama presidential campaign.  As such, I wanted to point out that the ad on the left side of this page titled "Vote Hope, Vote Obama" is NOT affilated with Barack Obama or his campaign.

While they do believe that Obama should be president, they're an independent 527 PAC not subject to normal campaign finance laws and Barack has disavowed and asked to cease operations. Although their website looks official and asks for donations, Obama has urged people to not support them or any other PACs.

Oh wow. Just wow.
And directly beneath your post, I'm getting a big, constipated photo of Mittens.

But I think I like Disco Scanner Darkly Obama better.

I LOL'd at Disco Scanner Darkly Obama. If I didn't already have such a kickass username on this blog, I'd be DiscoScannerDarklyObama.

I didn't know that it was scheduled to run, or I would have denied the ad. I really, really apologize to everyone for having a political ad on the site. I've turned down hundreds of dollars in ad money from political ads in the past-- even from the candidates/issues I supported.

I received a "New BlogAd Submitted" e-mail, but I didn't think to check it out. My bad, and I'll try and get it removed.

I just got an ad that said VOTE ROMNEY? when I refreshed this thread. Other than setting off my projectile vomiting reflex, I'm not so bothered by it. I know Grant doesn't put this stuff on here intentionally and he feels personally embarassed when any political ad pops up here. Just can't stop the machine, I guess.

Grant...
Weren't the ads between the main story/diary and the comments section supposed to be an offseason only thing last year?  Once the regular season got started they would go away?  Because this doesn't apply to me, but I'm sure it does to others.  To try and refresh a gameday thread with a animated ad on dialup would probably suck.

But I'm guessing you also have no say in this matter and that it's the SBN overlords that are forcing you to do this.

For the ads on the right or left, I don't really mind them.  As long as they are baseball related, or at least bay area sports related so most people would actually get something out of them, they are fine.  It looks as if you have gotten rid of the Obama ad, so congratulations for keeping this blog more honest.

For Firefox users I'd recommend Adblock Plus, I never even saw the Obama ad because it got blocked.

Re: Grant...
Yup, I wasn't even aware that this site had ads.  I too would recommend Adblock Plus, anything less is uncivilized.

Re: barf
The ads that show up in the posts and on the banner of the front page are network wide. They pay for the little things like, oh, server space, full-time tech support staff, and running a huge-ass new media sports network. I'm not a big fan of the political ads that Federated Media accepts, but I'm also not a fan of paying for my own hosting and tech support, so I don't mind.

The BlogAds to the side are mine. I'll be paid $100 for the WhatIfSports ad, which is a sweet, sweet $3/hr. rate for my work here. But I have control over the acceptance of those.
