Open Overnight Barry Thread

Congratulations to Barry Bonds.

And because I was actually there, man, I can tell you the truth. I can give you a first-hand account of what REALLY WENT DOWN. I can tell you what those hacks at ESPN are TOO SCARED to tell you:

There were more cheers than boos.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
I'm sure that moment ranks up there with hanging out with Goofus. Possibly a close second.

What boos?
Fool me seven times, shame on you. Fool me eight or more times, shame on me.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
Oh wow.  The whole crowd could have been booing and I wouldn't have heard a damn thing.  For me it was like, home run, holy crap fireworks, fireworks fireworks, Bonds is talking, hey it's Hank Aaron...and, uh...how'd I get on BART?

Seriously, I did anybody there even watch the rest of the game?  I stayed until midway through the eighth and all I remember is having some vague impression of the bullpen sucking.

That one was stupid. The post-755 one was much better.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
I second that.  The 755 strip was poignant and honest.  This one was just Nick bitching about steroids.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
Thanks Ever So Much to the Mayor of 311 for selling me his season tickets for the evening, at face value nonetheless. I am forever indebted to him for allowing my girlfriend and I to witness history. What a night!

That's me applauding in the third photo.

Well, so much for the "Kitspool is a ghost" rumors I was hoping to spread. Just step all over that, why don't you?

I'm not a ghost, but my girlfriend is.

BTW, from where I was sitting, I could see you, the Mayor, Goofus and Grant during the whole game. I hope this information doesn't creep you out. Looks like you lads were having fun.

I'm such a loser
I went by after work and watched Barry get a few hits through the RF porthole.  Then after Bengie's homer I went home to walk the dogs.

IS THAT THE WORST GODDAMN TIMING OR WHAT?!!!

Been kicking myself all night, but getting a little tired of it now.  I was there.  Kind of.

Re: I'm such a loser
You can always say, "I was there the night Bonds became the all-time Home Run King." There is nothing incorrect about that statement.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
So many damn people were on their cell phones afterword that my gloating text messages of "I SAW IT LIVE, HAHAHAHAHA" didn't get through to my friends.  Damn you Cingular, for not letting me exult in the faces of those not lucky enough to be there!

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
I was able to witness 755 in San Diego, and while it was exciting and all...in hindsight I would have paid good money to be there last night. I'm still giddy this morning.

Re: Open Overnight Barry Thread
Good to see I wasn't the only Giants fan who was in San Diego to see 755.  I would have loved to have seen 756 though it looked like an amazing moment and it's something I'll remember forever.

The Merc botched it
On the front page of the Mercury News, whose praises I was just singing last night, the headline was:

Duane Kuiper's call:

"Three balls and two strikes. The overshift is on. And Bacsik deals. And Bonds hits it hard. It's a deep -- It is outta here! 756 ... Bonds stands alone."

OK, I know it's not always easy to understand an announcer in the heat of the moment. But anyone who has ever listened to Kuip, ever, knows that the guy's HR call is "HITS IT DEEEEEEEEP ... Outta here!"

Not "It's a deep"! Jeez o Pete.

My favorite comment of the evening came from a friend who I called shortly after #756: "You're there on a truly historic night. What's it like actually being there for Barry Zito's first career RBI?"

Bold Prediction: Klesko will finish the 2007 season with at least 20 HRs. (OPS+ is 129 as of 7/1/07)
