Washington Post profiles Lincecum

Tim Lincecum's hair is still wet from a postgame shower, which must be worth at least an extra pound. He has a fat, silver belt buckle holding up his jeans -- call it another pound or so, including the jeans. The tight, designer T-shirt with the cool Japanese lettering is pretty flimsy -- a few ounces at most. Throw in the retro sneakers and the cap pulled low over his eyes, and Tim Lincecum might be all of 174 pounds.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
Thanks for the link cakes. Not much we haven't already heard or read, but it's still good to see Timmeh getting props from the media.

And more confirmation that he's a power dork...

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
The tidbit about him golfing a nine hole 39 with only 27 holes of experience is impressive if true.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
This isn't the first time I have read about Tim's sudden desire to make the golf team, so I'm pretty sure it is indeed the truth.

Yeah it is, assuming it wasn't a pitch-and-putt.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
In other "since the Nationals don't really count as a baseball team, we might as well start writing about the Giants, even though they don't come to DC until Labor Day weekend" news.

Eugene Robinson of the aforementioned Post has an op-ed piece on Barry.

Oddly, he doesn't bring up race.

Do they know to win the game a team has to actually score at least once?

Thanks for the additional link to the Barry article.  It is nice to see some objective views regarding Barry and the homerun chase.

"The Giants may not buy -- or even understand -- everything Chris Lincecum says, but the front office ordered its field staff at both the minor and major league level not to tinker with Lincecum's mechanics."

Maybe they should order the field staff not to tinker with anyone else's mechanics either...

The swings. Especially the swings. They have ruined the swings of every kid they have signed in the last 14 years.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
When the Giants were in New York to play the Mets, Tim actually made the Daily News gossip column!! He was sighted in a famous sports bar signing their wall of fame. The gossip writer said it was the night after he "mesmerized the Mets with his 99mph fastball." This kid is something special and the rest of the country is beginning to take notice. To say he's the one bright spot in a very dark year would be an understatement.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
I also look younger than my age and last year, when I was 24, I almost didn't get into a bar with some of my friends. The guy at the door looked at my ID, looked at me, held it up to the light, looked at me again, talked to some other person with my ID, as I stood there tapping my foot. I always wonder if other young-looking of age people get harassed like that.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
Young-looking people get carded into middle-age now.  I sense a general fear of getting busted.

I wonder if there's a correlation between checkers who take their time and those who wave a lot of hot women right on in.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
I had it happen to me recently where the guy put my ID through every test he could think of to see if it was fake.

And it's not like I'm a young looking 25 year old. I'm just this side of 22.

But still, this guy kept bending and scratching and looking back and forth and feeling around for uneven laminate until I was just this side of asking for his boss for harassment.

And my 25 year old sister almost had her license permanently bent by a safeway employee who didn't believe she could legally buy a bottle of wine. She actually did get the manager in that case, who looked at the ID briefly and said there was no problem with it.

But yeah, this kind of crap happens a lot. It happens to me to some degree almost every time I bust out my license because I've gained about 50 lbs and some spotty facial hair since I took that picture when I was 16 and don't look much like my picture (don't get me started on BofA customer service).

I should just go get a new one, but I still don't see why a person has to do the same three tests five times just to be sure no matter what my picture looks like.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
At the age of 28 I've finally stopped getting carded. Granted, I'm 6'6" so maybe that has something to do with it.  But it's just one of those things that makes me say...wow...I'm not technically that young anymore.

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
Crap...when I was 21 I didn't get carded at all.  Maybe that's because they know I've got the desire to drink them straight out of business!

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
I'm pretty sure I'll be carded for years to come and I'm fine with that. I may look young but I certainly don't feel young.

Bless you Natto.  When you posted that baseball card with yourself, I thought it was something you had done as a kid.  When I looked more closely and realized it was done at Fanfest, I thought "Wow! I'm old here."
Bold Prediction: Klesko will finish the 2007 season with at least 20 HRs. (OPS+ is 129 as of 7/1/07)

Re: Washington Post profiles Lincecum
The best one I've heard recently was when Sharks coach Ron Wilson coached his 1000th game had was told by his mentor Lou Lamorello, "You're as young as you feel, and thank goodness you're not as old as you look."
