Re: Apologies to the Onion....
LMAO.
Thank you Grant. BTW, is this quote real?
"I'm really happy to be going to get a fresh start, but did it have to be to a franchise that isn't committed to spending the money to put a winner on the field? And what's with having to have that lame-ass doofus Linden on my team again? And how can a Closer such as myself be expected to do anything but close? I feel mightily disrespected."

What the fuck are we going to do with another piece of shit reliever like Randy Messenger? I gotta tell ya. Me and my pals are sick of Sabaen diving into our dumpsters and picking over the goodies and leaving guys like Piershitski, Blowmeatiz, Hindenberg, and Finley in their place. Get that camera out of my face. I oughta kick your ass, motherfucker!

Re: Apologies to the Onion....
In any event, here's hoping Sabes doesn't move the Enchanter into the closer role, and if he moves Sanchez there that he makes it clear it's only for this season. Here's also hoping that Sabes doesn't use this as an excuse to trade someone useful for Proven Closer(tm) Chad Cordero.

Take away his early struggles this year, and he has been excellent.

Re: Apologies to the Onion....
I don't think the answers are out there for this season, and of course, he is probably on his way out. This could end up being a scorched earth, lame duck orgy of desperation moves that we will regret. I would rather see less movement of our value players until Sabean's future is determined. But good trade anyway.

Sabean falls on sword, yet saves the pitchers
After he recovered from his brain aneuysm in mid-interview yesterday, Sabean said to Ralph that front line starters will not be traded, period.
That's okay by me. If Sabean loses his job this year -- yet keeps the pitching intact -- I will take care to remember him fondly.

Re: Apologies to the Onion....
How is this trade different if Benitez blows that 12 inning save a little differently? Say, no balks - just a 2-run walk-off to Delgado? Or balks in the tying run, but gets Delgado out, and the Giants win it in 13? Lose it in 13?
And finally:
Now what am I going to do all summer? I had like 383 hours of Benitez mocking penciled in.

Re: Apologies to the Onion....
So now there's no one out there really worth trading for -- not if the guy's just a rent-a-player or a roll of the dice (ie.Melky Cabbrera, Lastings M., Carlos Gomez, et al.
Enjoy the diversion of Mondo's passing, buit it aint over till it's over and it aint over till Sept. 30th.
Have a nice day.

We still have problems.
This team is Sabean's team. He put it together. Getting rid of Mando helps in the clubhouse more than it does on the field. It doesn't make the team score more runs. The bullpen isn't better. Sabean has his work cut out for him to get this team on track. With the restrictions of the ownership, i.e., not permitting even one season of rebuilding/youth movement, I don't think he can get it done. Since ownership won't fire itself, Sabean is probably going down with this old ship.
