Open Gameday Thread, 4/18

Ugh. More bad lineup news. For the twelfth straight game, the Giants have filled their lineup with players under contract to the Giants. When will they learn?

Vizquel
Linden
Aurilia
Bonds
Durham
Molina
Feliz
Winn
Morris

Big night for the Bay Area....

Needs more Ryan Klesko. Big night indeed... Go Giants/Warriors/Sharks!

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 4/18
Klesko (like Roberts) is on the bench because the Cardinals starting pitcher is left handed.  Yes, Pedro Feliz is better then Ryan Klesko against lefties and Aurilia rakes lefties.

Haha, sorry, I didn't actually look at the handedness of the pitcher. Probably would have been a good idea.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I tried to think of things to complete that sentence and I couldn't. I might just make a diary out of that it's so entertaining.

Herpes?

Hitler?

Being chained to a rock, slathered in peanut butter, and nibbled to death by squirrels?

I can think of lots of things.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 4/18
I don't know, I'm pretty sure even Hitler would be able to lay off the slider. And Herpes doesn't suck nearly as bad as Feliz... believe me (I've had them both)!

The pain of a Feliz at bat is comparable to the pain of death by nibbling, and at least the squirrels are cute about it and I smell like peanut butter in the latter scenario.

Note: I haven't really had both Feliz and Herpes, nor necessarily even one of them, but I hear there isn't anything quite as annoying or hard to explain as Genital Feliz. That's what I heard, anyway.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 4/18
I am really beginning to hate the idea of Winn batting 8th.  Winn's career history of decent OBP screams that this is a waste.  If Molina is too slow to hit 8th then bat Feliz 8th where his career history of low OBP but decent SLG would actually be of some value.

I do however (considering the options) like the idea of Aurilia/Bonds/Durham/Molina in the middle of the batting order and in that order.

Is Klesko Injured? If we have Sweeney to pinch hit late in the game, what are we wasting Klesko on the bench for?

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 4/18
As stated above, Klesko isn't playing because the opposing starter is a lefty.

Whether this would be different if there was a RHP on the mound is up for debate.

Which begs the question: Should Niekro work at the Jiffy Lube?

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 4/18
I won't be staying up for this one but my humble suggestion for the season is treat the 2007 Giants team as an imaginary friend. You can talk to it and even pretend now and then that it's real but you aren't going to ever tell an adult you believed in it. The best thing about this friend is that occasionally it reminds you of why you love baseball . And, someday in the future, when a real Giants team emerges, you'll remember with this stand in with both fondness and horror. True, how much fondness will depend on how rapidly they shed certain players but...sorry, the liquor is wearing off. I'll go put the pillow over my head and whimper now.

No offense, but I can't see not staying up to watch the game. This team could be 10-150 and I would be staying up to the watch the last two games of the season. I love to watch the Giants, they're my team whether they are good or bad. And if you think this is not a good team, you are in for a surprise this season. A 12 game sample does not a season make.

I probably won't make it through the game but the game will last until midnight for me (Central time).  In Norwich (if that's where he's from) it would be at 1 am.

I would stay up to listen if I didn't have to get up at 7:30 tomorrow.  I'll probably listen for at least 4-5 innings.

Not staying up to listen to this game (I'm on Gameday Audio)isn't a matter of the team being good or not. It's a matter of being able to function at work in New York and staying on the cheerful side of a fantastic spouse who isn't much of a baseball fan. Gotta pick your spots.

Exactly..
If I had the ability to watch it I might rethink it.  But on Gameday Audio (hey there are more of us I guess) it gets a bit slow sometimes.  And working from 9-12 and then 1-9:30 tomorrow doesn't look good without a bit of sleep.

I think Matt Morris went back in time, kidnapped himself from when he was good, went forward in time and had robot parts strategically placed inside his younger self, transported that self to play for the Giants this year, and transported himself back to when he was kidnapped to fill the gap and begin what some have called an otherwise inexplicable early decline. Others, granted, have called it perfectly explicable and hardly early, but this robot part theory makes more sense to me.

good news/bad news for the W's. If they win, they're in. If they win and the Lakers lose to Sac (which is possible), the W's get the 7th spot and face Phoenix in the first round instead of Dallas. I swear, the Giants have the worst plate discipline.   It drives me nuts.  Up there hacking at the first pitch.

When was the last time the Giants saw more pitches than the other team?  Since I've been paying attention, they always see fewer pitches.
