The Fapsees?
The winner of the this year's Free Agent Prediction Contest will receive a year's supply of Turtle Wax. Well, maybe not a year's supply, but at least a link to an online coupon. If I can't find an online coupon, I'll just link to a Turtle Wax commercial on YouTube. If I can't find that, I'll link to something about turtles, I promise.
Alex Rodriguez - Nationals
I heard a Nationals/A-Rod rumor early in October, and danged if it didn't make sense. The Nationals have a new ballpark and new ownership group, and signing A-Rod would make a huge media splash. It's a pretty close analogy to the '93 Giants, in a way. Plus, this would free the Nationals up to trade Ryan Zimmerman for Brad Hennessey.
Andruw Jones - Dodgers
Power is their biggest problem, and this would allow them to trade Matt Kemp. Please?
Torii Hunter - Rangers
Hunter lives in Texas, and when the Rangers lost Gary Matthews, Jr., they plummeted from just below .500 to just below .500. Something has to be done.
Mike Lowell - Red Sox
They'll bend on their "two years max"-position. What does that third year really mean to the Red Sox' budget? Nothing.
Mariano Rivera - Yankees
Easiest one on the list. It's hard to imagine Rivera pulling up stakes and going to, oh, Cleveland when the Yankees are still willing to pay him.
Barry Bonds - A's
Sniff. The A's already have non-fielder Jack Cust as their DH, but I think Billy Beane would figure out a way to work Bonds into 120 games. Bonds would get to stay in the Bay Area. It's a win/win. Except for the Giants. Oh, and except for Bonds, who will have the crap booed out of him at every game, and not just the road games. Oh, and except for the A's, as Bonds will bring his recliner. When Barry Bonds reclines in the clubhouse, he drips clubhouse cancer all over the floor, and children can slip on the puddles of clubhouse cancer and die.
Aaron Rowand - Yankees
It's a drag that the free agent market isn't what it used to be. Even if the Giants signed the top five position players for hundreds of millions, they still wouldn't have a great offense. The lack of quick fixes can suck the irrational hope out of a bad team. The good news is that the Yankees have to bid on the same group of wretched as everyone else, and they're sure to panic and overspend on someone. Rowand is a ridiculously inconsistent player already in his 30s. But then I thought, "When am I ever going to be in Haiti again?"
Kosuke Fukudome - Cubs
The Cubs are trading Jacque Jones today, so there will be some room. If he turns out to be a beast, I'll go back and edit my "meh"-posts on him to make it seem like I loved Fukudome all along. Until then: meh. Randy Winn with thirty points of OBP and a nicer car.
Francisco Cordero - Giants
The Giants are going to throw money at someone, and spending tens of millions on a closer has never backfired on the organization. Except for every time they've tried it, that is, but now you're just being a lawyer. It never makes sense to invest too heavily in a closer, but at least Cordero's good. I think I used that exact line before the Benitez signing was official, but this time I mean it.
Carlos Silva - Mariners
Man. This is really the best free agent starter out there. Woof.
Tie-breaker: Noah Lowry will be traded to the _______.
Double tie-breaker: If he is traded, the ratio of satisfied McC readers to upset McC readers will be ___/___.

Re: The Fapsees?
Andruw Jones: Giants. Welcome to the Outfielder's Club. All the free golf and mediocrity you could want.
Hunter: Rangers. Sounds fine with me, Grant.
Lowell: Red Sox. Big deal.
Rivera: Yanks.
Bonds: Retirement. I really don't think anyone will budge for the baggage.
Rowand: Yanks, agreed.
Fukodome: Dodgers. Chan Ho Park can't be their biggest Eastern splash this year, can he?
Cordero: Red Sox. As much as they love the big guy over there, they could use another RH setup for Papelbon, or allow Papelbon to actually move to the rotation this time.
Silva: meh. Guess I'll go with the Mariners. Sounds better than any ideas I have.
Tie Breaker: Lowry to the Marlins. With Sanch. For you know who.
Double tie-breaker: 9:3 satisfied to upset.

Re: The Fapsees?
Andruw: Nationals. That A-rod/Nats rumor makes some sense, but I really doubt they'd have the money for that. Jones in Washington makes just a little more sense to me.
Hunter: Rangers. They need a decent CF too.
Lowell: Red Sox. They even said they want him back.
Rivera: Yankees. He's not going anywhere else.
Barry: Angels. They didn't seem to mind when all the HGH stuff about Gary Matthews came out, so I can't see why they wouldn't sign him.
Rowand: White Sox. They could use an upgrade from Podsednik.
Fukudome: Dodgers. I believe Gonzo's a FA, so they have a LF spot to fill.
Cordero: Indians. We're not making the closer FA mistake again, particularly when we have 2 cantidates from our own system to potentially fill the gap.
Silva: Mariners. They need pitching, and badly.
Tie Breaker: Noah Lowry will be traded to the Mariners.
Double Tie Breaker: If he is traded, the ratio of satisfied McC readers to upset McC readers will be 9:1 because the M's will give up way more than they should've in an attempt to fix their rotation.

Re: The Fapsees?
Andruw Jones: Dodgers. I agree on that one. the dodgers will lose out on A-Rod and go power crazy by signing Andruw and trading for miggy.
Torii Hunter: White Sox. He goes to a division rival for more years and $. the white sox are willing to overtspend for a good CF.
Lowell: Red Sox. I agree completely.
Rivera: Yankees. No brainer.
Bonds: A's. Padres and A's are the only suitors. and he chooses to stay for cheap in the only part of the country that won't boo him.
Rowand: Nationals. The Nationals need a quality CF. and they will be looking to spend a little coin to do so.
Fukudome: Giants. The giants need power and will be willing to hope they get it from a Japanese import.
Cordero: Astros. They will overspend for the only quality closer not named rivera on the market.
Carlos Silva: Mariners. They like to overspend for overvalued starters.
Tie Breaker: Lowry will be traded to the Cubs for Theriot and a prospect.
2nd tiebreaker: 1/7. Satisfied/dissatisfied. Theriot will back up vizquel and eventually start, but the giants won't have gotten enough value back for Lowry

Jones, Milledge, Pie
Adam Jones is younger and has out produced Pie, despite being rushed crazily by the Mariners.
Jones MLB record is better, despite being younger. His career OPS+ in the majors 63. Yes, bad, but it was 42 in 2006 at the age of 20, 86 in 2007 at the age of 21. Pie, 53 at the age of 21.
His record in the minors is similar to Pie's despite being younger. When you compare them at the same age, Jones leaves Pie behind.
In the minors, Jones was consistently one level ahead of Pie.
For example, at age 21 in AAA, Jones had a 968 OPS. Pie at age 21 in AAA had an OPS of 792. At 22 , he had an OPS of 973.

Re: The Fapsees?
Andruw Jones: Cubbies. Could make a deadly lineup deadlier still if he returns to form. If not, well Chicago has cash to spare.
Hunter: Baltimore. They could certainly use a CF and they've been known to overspend for name guys in the past.
Lowell: BoSox. No way this doesn't get done eventually.
Rivera: Yanks. No reason why they wouldn't shell out to keep him.
Bonds: Angels. It's been rumored for a long time, Vlad and Bonds in the 3-4 holes should be good for a year at least.
Rowand: Yankees. It just makes too much sense.
Fukodome: No one. Kusoke stays in Japan.
Cordero: Astros. Somebody to replace Lidge.
Silva: Mets. Weak pitching free agent market, but then again it would cost a lot to get somebody via trade. Ultimately, I think they'll bite the bullet and pay for what's out there.
Tie Breaker: Lowry to St. Louis for Chris Duncan.
Double tie-breaker: 2/5 McCovenites are satisfied with the trade, pointing out Duncan's 40 HR potential as a left-handed bat (granted, 40 HR playing his home games at Telephone Park probably wouldn't happen, but still a legit lefthanded power bat who could move to a wide open 1B). The other 3/5 take one look at his splits v. LHP and see that we've given up a possible #3 starter for a guy who may never outgrow a platoon role.

Re: The Fapsees?
Sabean says the Giants will not go old. We sign Dave Roberts. Sabean says we must get out of commiting big money to one player. We sign AROD. Easy enough.
Andruw Jones - NATIONALS
They make a splash for their new stadium.
Torii Hunter - WHITE SOX
They need a CF bad. Torii has family in Chicago.
Mike Lowell - Red Sox
Mariano Rivera - Yankees
Barry Bonds - ANAHEIM
As soon as we sign AROD. Angels fill their void. Protect Vladdy.
Aaron Rowand - PHILLIES
He played hard for them. I see them trying to keep it together.
Kosuke Fukudome - Cubs
Francisco Cordero - BREWERS
They have a good club. I say they pony up and he stays.
Carlos Silva - Mariners
They really are desperate
Tie-breaker: Noah Lowry will be traded to the Seattle__.
Double tie-breaker: If he is traded, the ratio of satisfied McC readers to upset McC readers will be __6/4_.
