Tuesday Twoferserro
In compiling a Jeff Fassero postmortem, I realize I completely forgot him in my preseason projections. For the sake of continuity, allow me to present my projection for Fassero's 2006:
Jeff Fassero
ERA - 7.80
IP - 15
K - 7
BB - 8
IP w/bases loaded - 0.1
Eerie, I know. It almost makes me wish I had made this one public.
My March feelings on Fassero starting the season with the Giants:
- Eh. Long relievers aren't to be taken too seriously.
- He did okay last year.
- If he starts to struggle at all, though, he needs to be taken to the glue factory.
He was a good Giant for a year, but was pushed into higher-leverage situations when Kevin Correia was slotted as the long man. That was never meant to last, especially with Brad Hennessey out of the rotation. Hopefully Brian Wilson comes back with a "Hello Goodbye", advises Fassero to "Let it Be", and tells Dave Righetti, "Hey, 'Start Me Up'!"

Fasser-no.
"I walk away from the game, I'm healthy," he said "Without any major surgery, I'll be able to walk and play golf and throw baseballs at my kids."
I can't help but imagining Fassero widly flinging baseballs at his frightened children.
Godspeed Jeff!
Re: Fasser-no.
Ouch!
Whoa.
Fassero: Happy to spend more time with Jake.

Perfect.
Although, I must correct you, Grant... "Let It Be" was by Herman's Hermits, not the Beach Boys.

Re: Tuesday Twoferserro
I am concerned that Felipe will insist on having 2 lefties in the blowpen; Taschner doesn't yet seem ready (although he may simply be undercover for CTU), and PLEASE GOD don't let Sabean bring up Sanchez and ruin him now.
In trying to think positively about the Giants current situation, I've decided the most encouraging thing to do is look back at the players we've let go in the past 2 years. Sorta like the story about the fellow who asked the boy why he was repeatedly hitting his thumb with a hammer. The boy answered "because it feels so good when I stop."
