Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Gameday Open Thread, 6/3

I received an e-mail pointing me towards Rehab the Crab. It's a site dedicated to bringing back the Crazy Crab. This doesn't sit well with Lou Seal fans, who have...oh, right, no one likes the pelvis-thrusting mascot of the damned. He is a fanless seal. The Crazy Crab, who was played by the same guy as Lou Seal if I recall correctly, would be more than welcome to come back. I grew up with the googly-eyed fella.

On the site there are shirts. I just received my Barry fish shirt today, which is both nerdy and offensive. Awesome. The quality of the images on the shirts isn't so hot, but Nordstrom's just discontinued their line of Crazy Crab wear, so this is it. And well worth it, I might add.

I'd wager the proprietor is a regular here, and might be among us now. He also has the proper amount of fear and respect for Mike Krukow. If you are an active member of McCovey Chronicles, why haven't you plugged this thing before? I'm callin' you out....

Also, I've always thought the Lou Seal name was incredibly stupid. It was the winner of a contest, which saddens me. Deeply saddens me. The mascot was going to be a seal, and the contest was to name the seal. The winner was a name with only one gimmick. When you said the full name of the male mascot, it sounded like a female proper name. Wheee! Unless this was a shout out to the transgendered population of our liberal-festooned area, it was, is, and always will be, one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Lou Seal
My wife loves Lou Seal, and Marquis Grissom.  She has a very kind heart.

it's kind like when you have a bad case of food poisoning.  when you're stumbling back to your bed from a trip to the toilet, you know you're still sick, but at least you know you just got some it out of your system.

Pointing Skyward
I hope the next time I see Herges, he is pointing skyward as the ball leaves the bat of a Giants player, as  if to help a fielder locate the ball, only to see the ball keep going, and going, and finally leaving the yard.  Man, I hated when he did that on a ball driven to the wall or further!

Is this the firesale?

So I know Herges wasn't going to fetch much, but the Giants did manage to acquire Doug DeVore in the trade.

Lou Freakin' Seal
Worst. Mascot name. Ever. Youppi! was too weird to be all that bad. The San Diego Chicken is straightforward enough. Lou Seal is a crappy pun for a crappy mascot. My dad and I have had lots of fun at the damn seal's expense. We call him The Giant Tail-less Rat. Which he is.
And for the record, my suggestion for the mascot's name was Farallon. Which is not quite as good as my dad's entry: Zippy the Pinniped.

Lou Seal
It looks like a squirrel from View Box 307. Bring back the Crab or Bullwinkle.

Bring Back Crazy Crab
An entire pre-adolescent generation of Bay Area youth have been permanently scarred by the Inapproriately Pelvic Thrusting One. The single highlight of the recent series in Philadelphia, if you can call it that, was our brief exposure to the brilliant and versatile Phanatic, whose on-field stylings and jocular use of Silly String on our young radio play-by-play man only reminded us of what we are missing here on the West Coast.

Oh, good!
So our bullpen will be....umm...rested. Or something. Never mind.

Crazy Crab
Just wanted to point out that the "Crazy Crab" Site also branches out into bonus features, such as, "Kruktionary", although I must admit that the baseball card at the bottom of the page made my stomach turn.  Mike Scott can suck it

Well, that was a good game today
No errors, no blown leads by the bullpen, no rally-killing GIDP.  Solid day, all around.

The Kruktionary
Im loving the "Kruktionary":

http://www.rehabthecrab.com/Krukow.html

This is a solid start, but there must be a couple dozen more "Krukowisms" that need to be added to the Kruktionary.

I see they just added "Elephant Ear".  What else is missing?

All hail the ultimate "homer", Mike Krukow!

the stupid seal
Lou Seal deserves to go to the glue factory along with Marquis Grissom, Matt Herges and Kirk Rueter.  In fact, he deserves it more.
