Giants "maybe" offer Morris a 3 year deal

Mostly speculation but Rotoworld just posted that...

"Matt Morris has received a three-year offer from a National League team that's not the Cardinals.

Agent Barry Axelrod said that, in addition to that team and the Cardinals, Morris has received interest from the Mariners, Orioles, Giants, Tigers and Rangers. We would have guessed that the Giants were the ones making the offer, but if it's not them, perhaps it's one of the NL West teams. "

I would have to figure that this is a offer from the Giants. Morris makes sense because the Giants simpley cannot afford AJ Burnett or Millwood. More news to follow!

If...
we signed Morris in the next few days, what draft picks would we surrender as compensation?
Did you ever go to sleep with Bo Derek and wake up with Bo Diddley?

Re: If...
I think it would be our second round. Our first round is protected, and the Eyre comp picks would still be there. At least that is my understanding.

Re: If...
That too is my understanding, and may not in the end be a bad thing  (I'm also assuming that Chicago picks up  another FA or two that drops our comp pick out of the second round, to the third or even fourth). Having an early first and a supp pick should eat up the draft budget quite nicely, thank you, and I can't see the team having a different budget based upon how many picks they have- it would just be carving the same chicken for three (or four) rather than two. I would rather see two servings of coq au vin than 4 of  McNuggets.

Thanks for the guffaw!

Say, speaking of when picking, does anyone know how they order the supplemental picks?  I'm guessing by record which would push the Giants towards the front, though ideally for us it would be in chronological order, making the Giants the 31st pick right now.

For what it's worth...
A guy on another message board who supposedly "knows somebody within the organization" posted that that Giants made Morris a 3 year offer, but didn't know the amount.

I can't vouch for his credibility, but it sounded reasonable.

Re: For what it's worth...
Not to rain on the parade, but the Giants made a three year offer to Eyre as well.  I'll get my hopes up when I start seeing numbers and team names.

Re: For what it's worth...
I think what they offered Eyre was two years and an option, and they pretty much knew he was gone. If nothing else, it shows that Morris is the pitcher they're targetting.
