What do you guys think of Kubel signing with the D-Backs?

Good trade for them or did they overpay him? Parra is better defensively obviously.

Any good podcast recommendations?

I've recently been listening to more and more podcasts as of late, so I was wondering if the McCoven have any favorites they would like to share? First I'd like to hear suggestions on favorite baseball podcasts, but all types are welcome! I was recently recommended "My Brother, My Brother, and Me" and I think it is the type of humor that most of the members here would love. Enjoy!

Bruce Bochy is not good at making lineups

In 128 games, the leadoff hitter has been the center fielder 120 times, the shortstop four times, the left fielder three times, and the second baseman once. The second hitter has been the second baseman 98 times, the third baseman 17 times, and the shortstop 13 times.

Bruce Bochy quite literally does decide where hitters should bat in the order based on what position they play. While we know this already, it's worth noting how mind-numbingly stupid it is.

Download Old KNBR Game Broadcasts (NLCS/NLDS)?

Anyone know where to get old KNBR game broadcasts? I bought the World Series DVD Collection, but as has been discussed many times, the NLCS games don't include KNBR's audio. Would love to listen to these again. Thanks!

Quality PC Baseball game Help!

Looking for a quality baseball game for the PC. I have been playing a modified version of MVP 2005 mostly because I like that I can update it and I have everything right where I like. Also, it is pretty realistic with the stats and whatnot. I'm looking for a new game where I can manage the game, and there are minor league players, and also the ability to edit players etc. Suggestions?

Is Ryan Vogelsong for real?

I am vey much starting to think he is. To me he is another Andres Torres. He is unexpected found money. I think he has the talent and make up to be not just a bottom of the rotation starter but a middle of the rotation starter on even a rotation as good as the Giants.

OT: Moving to SF

I have been lurking in the shadows since we were waiting for Boof and have rarely ever posted. However, I have always appreciated the opinions of the posters here. Now, I am asking for some help. I will be moving to San Francisco for a job in July. I'll be working near the financial district. I'd like to find a place for about $1,000 to $1,300 a month. (Closer to $1,000 is better). Roommates are probably a necessity, but it needs to be the right situation. I am single and in my mid-20's, so a lively neighborhood is a plus, but I'm not a huge partier. I'd also value the luxury of living in a place where I don't have to actively worry getting shanked. At least to start with I am going to have a car, so parking is a consideration. The question is: Where neighborhoods I be looking to live in, and how should I be searching? Friends have recommended the Marina and Lower Pac Heights, are there other areas worth considering? What about the East Bay or somewhere to the south near a Bart line? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Little League Sportsmanship Question

I got this email from the commissioner of the 9-10 year old baseball league that I am coaching for: Any coach that sends his kid into the batters box and tells them not to swing, while a kid on the other team is struggling pitching, should be strung up by their buster browns out in center field and left there for the rest of the day. AND, if I were the umpire (and you can trust we will address this) I would call a strike on the very next pitch regardless of where it was. This is NOT baseball and should never happen. If you're doing it with only the bottom of the lineup, then we ought to allow the kids to go out to wherever you're strung up and give you lashes with a wet noodle. This is bad sportsmanship and a real crappy thing to teach all the kids, especially the little guy that might want to go up there and swing the bat. Don't do it, please." I was wondering your thoughts, is it really unsportsman like? I personally think its OK and I was one of the coaches telling my players not to swing on wild pitchers. Thoughts?

matrices/markov chains and statistics

I'm working on a project for school about how matrices and markov chains are used in baseball statistics. Most of what I've found has been very vague (and don't show any specific calculations). I just thought I'd see if any of the more stat savvy posters knew of any helpful articles on the subject.

Ventura/Oxnard

Anyone have a tip on a Giants friendly bar in this area? I'll be down there for the 9th (ring ceremony) and would like to still see it without dealing with Dodger fans stabbing me.
