Melky Cabrera Contract Offer?
The time is coming when an offer will be sent to the Melkman from the jefes up top. The question is how long and for how much? He has been on the rise the last couple of years, is entering the prime age of 28-31, and looks like a Giant. I am all for 3 years, around 8 million a year. He doesn't hit home runs, he doesn't steal bases, and his defense is average at best. But he swings a solid stick, plays hard everyday, and looks ready to prime out the next few years.
3 years, 30 million......what do you armchair GM's think? let the offers flow...
GO GIANTS
Alternate Post Game Thread - Matt Cain's Batting Average
By going 2/3 today, Matt Cain has a .235 Batting Average, which is better than these position players:
- 2B Ryan Theriot (.179)
- 1B Aubrey Huff (.194)
- SS Brandon Crawford (.204)
- 2B Emmanuel Burriss(.231)
- CF Gregor Blanco (.231)
So since Matt Cain is better Baseball, what do we do? Now I know we all would like 8 Matt Cain's and a Buster Posey on the field, but since that can't happen... what say you?
Craig Robinson's The Rotation in D3
I'm sure many of you are familiar with Craig Robinson's infographics at Flip Flop Fly Ball, and specifically the one depicting the 2010 San Francisco Giants starting pitchers. As an excuse to learn D3.js, I recreated the infographic with D3, and added win/loss, opponent faced, and postseason data, along with some some basic animations. My D3 version | Original Infographic If any of you are programmatically, or graphically inclined, I'd definitely recommend looking into D3. This was my first effort at creating something with it, and even though it pales in comparison to some of the stuff I've seen, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Highlights from the Giants farm on Friday: Chris Dominguez hit a grand slam for Richmond, while Francisco Peguero and Justin Christian put up three-hit games for Fresno. Meanwhile, Bryce Bandilla struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings for Augusta...while losing.

Keystone Cops - With Poll
The recent news that Freddy Sanchez is playing in expedition games... at third base no less... has put the 2B position for your San Francisco Giants into high comedy or high alert, depending on whether you want to laugh or rage. When healthy, Freddy puts up some nice numbers, plays good defense and provides some intangibles here and there. While I don't want to count out a guy who's overcome a club foot and being pigeon-toed to play major league ball it definitely is looking grim, and if he does take the field Dave Dravecky has to be in the back of any aged fans mind. On the flip side, the last time he played he was hustled from the field, so there has already been a Dravecky moment in a way. Here's hoping you can make it back by the all star break Freddy!

Highlights from the Giants farm on Thursday: Shawn Payne continues to rule Augusta, hitting a grand slam in a three-hit performance. Clayton Blackburn had a season-high eight strikeouts.
Seeking local advice
Hallo denizens of McCovey Chronicles:
I came by a few months ago, asking you folks about ticketing matters, and those of you who answered my inquiries were a great help. For that, I am thankful, even if I neglected to delete my post like I said I would (my bad). I snagged some tickets for the Sunday, May 20 game between the Giants and A's, so I'll be making my first ever trip out to the Bay Area next weekend, and I am looking forward to it greatly. I am also going to drive out to Modesto, because I've got the humor of a 14-year old, and I really want to see a team called "the Nuts," and I'm going to catch the A's at the Mausoleum on the following Monday during this trip.
Now I'm not going to straight up ask everyone to give me their best suggestions; heaven's no, I know how internet etiquette works; I used the search function first. Combing through these. Prior. Excellent. Travel. Posts. that I was able to find, I have a fairly good idea of what I'll be eating, drinking, and possibly seeing while out in SF, but there are a few gaps that I'd like some assistance at filling.
I probably won't have as much time as I think I will, since going to Modesto is literally going to eat an entire day of my essentially three-day trip out there (flying in Sat. morning, leaving first thing Tues. morning), but as it pertains to the non-baseball park stuff, I don't typically put too much on my agenda, leaving a lot of things to chance and random discoveries. But two kinda mandatory things I really want to do are:
- Alcatraz tour
- See the Full House house
Some things I couldn't really find much information on in those posts, and wouldn't mind some additional suggestions are:
- Coffee. Much like dining, I make a general rule to not eat whatever I can get anywhere else. I like odd little coffee shops, filled with hipsters and weirdos. It also helps if the coffee is actually good, too.
- Burritos. I saw some mentions of El Faro and La Tapatia, but I always was under the impression that SF was like where the California big-ass burrito trend began, and I was wondering if there was more beyond those two options.
- Seafood. My initial thought was to go towards a waterfront area, and look for a seafood restaurant. I've fallen for such flawed thinking in Seattle and Boston, and I'd rather that not happen in SF.
- Weather. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to it, but I didn't really see much about day game circumstances, so what the heck - is it going to be cold during a Sunday day game?
I thank you all in advance for accommodating this traveler, and I look forward to all your wonderful advice. I have very high hopes about visiting San Francisco, and I'm quite excited.
Jonny Moseley at Dodger Stadium
My friend and I were making the hike up to Frank's Lot outside of Dodger Stadium last night when we ran into a familiar face: Jonny Moseley, Olympic gold medal mogulist, American hero, and one of Marin County's finest. We recognized him immediately and yelled, "Jonny!!" and he smiled and shook our hands and was very friendly and personable.
As we walked to the stadium we talked skiing, Squaw Valley, Marin, the Bay, etc. etc. He spoke at my 8th grade graduation in 1998, so we had some laughs about that. Jonny was by himself. It turns out he was in LA for just a day or two on business and thought he'd catch some Lincecum before he took off.
Well, Jonny didn't have a ticket yet, and we had an extra one, so we offered it... and he accepted. This is how I got to spend 9 innings last night watching Giants-Dodgers with Jonny Moseley.

Highlights from the Giants Farm on Wednesday: Todd Linden has a walk off double on a three-hit day, Craig Westcott homers in more runs than he allows. Also, guess what Giants farmhand is 15-for-19 over his last seven games?
