Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Have no worries, I can safely predict how the game will turn out. I just started my franchise on MLB2K7 because mainly I'm just killing time until 1.

Giants to win 2-0, with Zito going 8 strong and striking out 10. Benitez to come in for the save, will procede to bean the first hitter prompting boos from those in attendance. Eventually he'll close it out, after allowing the runner to move into scoring position.

Huzzah, I'd take it if it were true.

Ishikawa will have a higher batting average than Matsuzaka this year.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Hmm, my game came out a bit differently on MLB 2K7.  My Giants won the game 6-5, on a 10th inning homer by Bengie Molina.  Bonds went hitless, Zito went 6 innings, and allowed four runs, and Benitez came in and blew the on his third pitch.  At least we both won...

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
I've been using a set of sliders, because honestly the game allows for way too many home runs. I'm thinking I need to change them after this first game, but we'll see how it goes the next few.

Vizquel went hitless, as did Molina and Feliz. But with the score being what it was, it's acceptable to an extent.

Ishikawa will have a higher batting average than Matsuzaka this year.

So hey...about MLB2K7...is it worth the buy?  Last baseball game I got for the PS2 was EA MVP 2005.  Wasn't disappointed, but it got old real quick like.    Is Barry even in this new one?  Because he wasn't in my 2005 version, something about not allowing his likeness to be used in any games.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
MLB 2K7 is pretty fun, but honestly, somewhat disappointing.  I have it for Xbox 360, and it certainly DESTROYS last years pathetic game, but what I look for mostly in baseball games is realism, and it's lacking in this department.  As mentioned, there are WAY too many homeruns, and pitching tends to get pretty easy pretty fast.  The game requires LOTS of slider adjustments to make it play somewhat realistically, but, still, it's just way too easy to hit a homerun.  I really don't like their system of hitting, using the right stick.  Almost every at bat results in you striking out, or making contact and hitting a homerun.

The main draw for me with the 360 version is the graphics - they're just spectacular.  It's like playing a live broadcast.  I like the way the pitching is set up, too, but it took awhile of slider adjustment to make it so I didn't pitch a 3 hitter every single game.  The franchise features are pretty weak, too (no real minor league teams or realistic player development, etc).

Bonds, of course isn't in the game because he's not in the MLBPA.  You get a replacement for him (I think his name is Joe Young or something), and you can edit this player to be Bonds, so its not that bad.

Still, the best baseball game I've played is MVP '05 for the Xbox.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
You pretty much nailed everything there.

I myself can't get use to zone pitching, so I have to stick with the default. I never walk anyone, because well it's rather easy to pinpoint where you want it to go.

As for batting, I agree 100 percent. The swing stick is unnatural feeling and takes the fun out of it for me.

Ishikawa will have a higher batting average than Matsuzaka this year.

It WOULD be amazing.  It would mark just the fourth time in the past 46 months that Barry had reached double digits in strikeouts.  That's in about his last 125 starts.

And what would make it even better is hearing Jon Miller describe every nuance.

Well, it probably would have since Giles flew out and the other Giles doubled anyway. But if he scored on a passed ball and then there were some pop outs and Ks that would have kept him from scoring, it probably would have been unearned.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
So, it's too early to write off Zito or anything, but he sure looked like what we were afraid we might be getting tonight: a guy whose fringe stuff had declined to the point where he couldn't reliably get swingthroughs and is no longer able to finish batters off, leading to high pitch counts and ineffectiveness.

Hopefully he'll be better next time around, and at least tomorrow we get to see a real stud pitcher.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Switching leagues doesn't negate 85mph fastballs and shaky control. His line today is pretty much the norm. Not horrible, but not worth 1/4 of what they're paying him.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Couldn't leave it at 666 posts for Opening Day. Too ominous.

So this is season-saving post #667.

It's never too early to panic.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Ok, that was fun.  Now lets go back to hitting Bonds cleanup and hope Aurilia (or Klesko) can get something to hit in the 3-hole.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
i'm pretty certain that's not the reason we got smoked.
We'd be pretty good if we didn't suck so bad.

Home from the park ...
The pregame ceremonies were lovely and as you all saw, it went downhill from there. I have to say we were getting some bad calls. OTOH, nobody could get a hit.

2002? I'm over it. But I'll never be over Rich Aurilia.

Re: so
I think he took it. But he made up for it by swinging at the first breaking pitch low and away and in the dirt.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
I just got home from the game, I had bleacher seats.  It was my first opening day and I had so much fun. Sure the game was lame but sun + beer + pageantry = good times.

Re: Open Opening Day Thread
Good for you , Rock...or is it Josie?
All I knew of the game until I logged onto this...towelrack...was looking up in a bar and seeing us down 3 - 0 partway through.

So we go 161 - 1...of course not.
And Barry2 won't go 10 - 22.
Nor will he go 22 - 10.

OK , it was a bad first game. You really don't expect perfection this early , do you?

Oh.

Well , it ain't happening.
