The Giants may be feckless, but there's gotta be some feck somewhere on the Internet. Let's all click on a bunch of links and try to find it.
Trader Jack? As Seattle's GM struggles to complete deals, some rival executives wonder
Jack Zduriencik came into the Mariners GM job with a reputation for being a forward thinker, which is strange, because look at him. Literally look at him. I don't think I'd ever seen his face before. That is not the face of someone who innovates. That's the face of the shady leader of a megacorporation who isn't out-and-out evil, but halfway through the movie gets murdered by the actual bad guy.
This is relevant to Jack Zduriencik because that guy also has no idea what the hell he's doing.
The BBWAA/Hall of Fame Changes
Yesterday, I linked a Joe Posnanski article talking about the new HoF voting rules, and today, here's Joe Sheehan. He's practically effusive about the changes, arguing that the real problem is a terrible electorate, and that overall this is positive for the Hall. My counterargument is Everything Is About Barry Bonds so let's all look at how it affects Barry Bonds oh hey negatively okay good work everyone these changes suck.
Well Being: Melting that old advice about ice
Chris Lincecum is known for a lot of things, but mostly for the phrase "Ice is for your drinks." And it turns out that he's not the only one who thinks so; more experts are coming around to his way of thinking, though there is, as always, a debate. The good news is that since this is the Internet, we have scores of uninformed people giving their opinions, so this should all be figured out in no time.
Also, did you know Chris is the father of Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum? Strange but true!
Why Fans Care More About Free Agents Than Games
I'm not immune from thinking I could be a good GM just because I loosely follow the minor leagues, and have guided several fantasy baseball teams to second-place finishes. I am also a terrible athlete, so it makes sense that I would gravitate towards the more intellectual side of baseball, because that's the part that it's not theoretically impossible for me to do well.
However, I don't ever let that get in the way of watching or enjoying a game, and I never begin to think that offseason stuff takes precedence over the actual playing of the sport. Is it because I am inherently a better person than people who do that? I don't want to say yes, because I am extremely modest, because modesty is a positive trait, and positive traits are most prominent in people who are better than other people, which I am.
Erisbel Arruebarrena flashes plus helmet throwing & fight fleeing tools in AAA brawl
Should Arruebarrena ever be called up to the majors and stay awhile, it's nice to know we'll have the video of this brawl to point and laugh at. Gives me a warm feeling in whatever place where you can get a warm feeling and it's not creepy.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle night comes with FOUR HATS
That's as many hats as there are ninja turtles! What a coincidence!
