Ian's SBN Bookmarklets (change look/feel)

I started this project a while back, then SBN changed up their CSS and I got annoyed.

The gist is this. SBN has great bloggers, but their user experience design sometimes leaves a few things to be deserved. I'm creating a series of bookmarklets that you can drag to your browser favorites, which subtly change up the interface in useful ways. They use a basic CSS style injection and require JavaScript. There isn't any security risk here unless I start asking you for account information (I'll never ever ever do that).

Currently available bookmarklets include:

  • Fix SBN Fonts [version 1.2]
SBN uses a font called Mecrcury Text, and they prefer "Variant A" for body copy. It's an elegant typeface, reminiscent of old world sporting greens but modern enough to say "I'm a blag, not a paper". Unfortunately, it doesn't render well on a lot of Webkit browsers (Chrome, Safari, particularly under Windows). This boomarklet simply changes the font to variant B, which is the backup font anyway, and increases its size by 10%. Voila! Readable fonts. Version 1.1 fixes comment fonts as well. Version 1.2 adjusts the article line height. Version 1.3 will fix a line-height issue in the auto updates box.
  • Comment Colors [version 1.0]
The exact style of the comments leaves something to be desired. On McCovey Chronicles it's yellow for new and green for rec. This bookmarklet creates a left-stripe for new, a color fill for rec, and both if they coexist. Also, it's a nice Giants orange setup. More colors are available by request. Here's a preview image. Yes I also rounded off the portrait thumbnails, just for fun.
  • Ballpark Background [version 1.0]
Well, I dont' see any other fans around here so we'll stick with the Giants theme until someon requests another team in the comments. This bookmarklet replaces the site background with a beauty-shot of AT&T Park at dusk. Here's a preview image.
  • Giants Theme Pack 1.02
Why take up three bookmarks when you can do it all in one? By soon to be popular demand, here's a wrap up of the font fix, comment colors, and ballpark background all in a single button. 1.01 was a quick fix of the site community name in the top banner, which had gottent too large. The wrong (~4MB) graphic was in this pack originally. It has been optimized.
