New and Improved Prospect Thread

In case you haven't heard, the Giants are headed back to the NLCS! And they're doing with a roster just chalk full of homegrown talent (even if some of that talent keeps giving up monstrous dingers to Bryce Harper). On July 31 most everybody in Giants nation, myself most definitely included, believed we needed to bring in ugrades from outside the organization. Instead we brought in Matt Duffy, Andrew Susac, Hunter Strickland, and turbo charged Joe Panik! And the braintrust have been more than amply rewarded for their faith in the system once again. Heck had it not been for an extremely ill timed TJ, one might dream that our LF hole would have been filled this autumn by the awesome swinging might of one Mac Williamson. But that's for next autumn.

Anyway, having established how important our prospects are, do you want to hear what Bobby Evans has to say about a bunch of them? Of course you do! And here it is, in MiLB's annual lollorific Organizational All Stars list. No criteria is ever specified for the making of these lists, and none ever makes itself overly apparent. Nonetheless, it does provide a great jumping off point for seeing what Evans says about a handful of young Giants, from the tepid, cautious enthusiasm (Matt Lujan, Tyler Horan) to the more effusive (Matt Duffy, Miguel Gomez). There's a link in the middle of the article that leads to greater amplification of Evans' comments on all of the above. Well worth the time and full of odd delights. For instance, which is the more surprising, the notion that the org hopes Miguel Gomez can make the Augusta roster next year, or that Matt Duffy might be returned to AAA next year? Both intriguing.

Also worth a mention, the Arizona Fall League opened yesterday. You can follow that league here, as well as through twitter. Among the folks who are attending and live tweeting AFL games are @BerniePleskoff, @JNorris427, and @KeithLaw. There are probably many others too, so add them in the comments section if there's someone you like.

The Giants contingent to the AFL isn't terribly strong, nor terribly sexy (so may not get a lot of comment from the twitterati) but certainly we're all very interested to see how Clayton Blackburn performs against some of the best hitters in the minors, as well as other interesting tidbits.

In Scottsdale's opening game, we got two Giants' participants. Blake Miller played 2b and went 1 for 4 with 2 Ks (which if you read Evans' comments on Blake above, you know is a key development area for him), while Steven Okert pitched a perfect inning with 1 K, throwing 7 of 9 pitches for strikes.

That's all for now. BA's Eastern League ranking should show up tomorrow or Friday and we'll maybe get some Kyle Crick discussion in the chat.

Kyle Crick K's 11

In the meantime, let's just watch this
