minor lines, 8/14/13

Wednesday highlights from the Giants' farm: Yusmeiro Petit, Adalberto Mejia, and Kendry Flores each allowed just 1 R in their starts.  Also notable, Mark Minicozzi homered and singled, and Travious Relaford reached base five times.

AAA: Fresno lost to Omaha 1-0

Fresno: LF Francisco Peguero: 2 for 4
Fresno: 1B Chris Dominguez: 3 for 4, 2B, CS

Fresno: SP Yusmeiro Petit: 8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K--1 HR
Omaha: SP Yordano Ventura: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 4 K--1 WP

Dominguez, whose three hits included his 18th double, and Peguero combined for five of the Grizzlies' eight hits.

Petit allowed just a solo HR in the 1st inning--the game's lone run--to be the tough luck loser in a complete-game effort.  This was just his 2nd CG in his last eight pro seasons.  The Royals' Ventura, perhaps one of the top 50 prospects in the minors, had 6.0 scoreless IP despite allowing nearly two baserunners per inning.  His component stats this year are 97 H, 48 H, and 137 K in 118.1 IP.

AA: Richmond defeated Akron 4-3
(rallying for four runs in the 8th inning)

Richmond: DH Mark Minicozzi: 2 for 4, HR

Richmond: SP Craig Westcott: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K--2 WP
Richmond: RP Drew Bowlin: 1.1 IP, 2 K

Minicozzi's 9th HR was a three-run HR that capped a four-run rally in the 8th inning.  He is now one away from his career-high 10 HRs last year.

Westcott allowed just 1 R through 5.0 IP but departed in the 6th inning after loaded the bases with two outs.  Even with just three batters going the distance to a walk or a strikeout, he threw 96 pitches (58 strikes) in less than 6.0 IP.  Bowlin had 1.1 perfect IP.

A+: San Jose lost to Modesto 3-1
(allowing two runs in the 8th inning)

San Jose: DH Mac Williamson: 3 for 4, 2B, SO
San Jose: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 1 for 2, 2 BB

San Jose: SP Adalberto Mejia: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Modesto: RP Jonathan Gray: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

With his 25th double and two singles, Williamson had half of the Giants' six hits.  He raised his AVG to .280.  Oropesa also reached base three times.

Mejia had his third quality start among eight starts since coming off the DL in late June.  Gray, whom the Rockies drafted third overall two months ago and had issued just 3 BB over his first six pro starts, issued a career-high 4 BB but still delivered 4.0 scoreless IP.  He has allowed just 1 R in three Cal League starts.

A-: Augusta defeated Greenville 14-1

Augusta: SS-3B-2B Travious Relaford: 2 for 3, 2B, 3 BB, E
Augusta: 3B Mitchell Delfino: 3 for 4, 2B
Augusta: RF Chuckie Jones: 2 for 4, HR, 2B, BB, SO

Augusta: SP Kendry Flores: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Delfino's three hits paced the GreenJackets' fifteen-hit attack.  Relaford reached base five times.  Jones hit his 9th HR and 18th double.

Flores has seven quality starts in nine starts since the all-star break.  He has a 2.61 ERA, as well as 61 K and just 4 BB, over his last nine starts.

ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Hillsboro 4-0

Salem-Keizer: PH-DH Sam Eberle: 1 for 1, 2B

Salem-Keizer: SP Pat Young: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Hillsboro: SP Ben Eckels: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K--2 HB

Eberle's 12th double was one of four hits for the Volcanoes.

Young has yet to allowed an earned run in five NWL starts, although he has given up 3 unearned runs.  With just 1 BB in each of his starts, he has a sub-1.00 WHIP.  Eckels, whom the Diamondbacks drafted out of Davis (CA) HS a year ago, had 6.0 scoreless IP.

R: Scottsdale had an off-day
(They have two remaining scheduled off-days.)

DSL: Gigantes defeated Diamondbacks 3-0

Dominican: C Miguel Gomez: 1 for 3, BB
Dominican: SP Eber Guzman: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 3 K--1 HB

Gomez (20.7 y.o.) reached base twice.  He has an OPS just above .850 in his second DSL campaign.  Guzman's (20.4 y.o.) 6.0 scoreless IP improved his ERA to 3.32 after 65.0 IP.
