Jon Bernstein on Baseball, Pokemonz and APBA

Political writer, Giants fan and personal friend Jon Bernstein has written a Friday Baseball Post about being a roto player and a fan and, well, a bunch of stuff. He makes the claim that

...the explosion of [statistical] information, as much as it was technically enabled by the internet, has always been all about fantasy. Not just raw information, either. Fantasy created a market for sabermetrics, or at least a market that could sustain more than just one brilliant writer. One might even argue that it was fantasy that created real-life teams eventually adopting advanced analysis over the last twenty years.

I'm skeptical, but then I've never had a pokemonz team; over the last twenty years I have taken advantage of all the statistical info purely as a Giants fan, so I figured that I was the market. Maybe it wasn't me, though.
