This one makes sense to me. Take a look. At the bottom is each player's salary and 2014 & 2015 status.
I would play Aramis Ramirez at 1B (possibly moving Panda there if his defense continues to suffer - particularly his throws).
We add pop, a solid #3 and a reliever-spot starter, even if Ramirez is starting to have some injury issues. It is not a given that he is in total decline. Check out his offensive and defensive stats. PLUS we go into the offseason knowing that we've filled one of our two or three vacant rotation spots.
Downstream (3 yrs) we will need to develop (or acquire) a 3B or 1B, depending on where Panda's headed.
Belt's (supposed) upside fills the Brewer's need for a long-term 1B (they've seen nothing from Mat Gamel) on a team sorely in need of defense. Belt is also more likely to hit for more power in Milwaukee than at AT&T. And Hembree fills their need for a closer (Frankie Rodriguez not their long-term answer).
The questions is, Who could the Brewers reasonably expect in addition to Belt & Hembree and that you would be willing to give up for this package?
Gallardo - 14: $11.25M, 15: $13M club option ($.06M buyout)
Ramirez - 14: $16M, 15: mutual option ($4M buyout)
Gorzelanny - 14: $2.8M
