minor lines, 6/2/13

Sunday highlights from the Giants' farm: Joe Panik homered while reaching base three times, and Austin Fleet allowed just 1 R in 6.0 IP. Also notable, Jarrett Parker homered while reaching base in both plate appearances, and Mark Minicozzi homered and singled.

AA: Fresno lost to Las Vegas 3-2 (10 innings)

Fresno: 1B Chris Dominguez: 1 for 3, BB, SO

Fresno: SP Austin Fleet: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K--1 HR
Fresno: RP Heath Hembree: 2.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

Dominguez was the lone Grizzly to reach base twice. He had a 2-RBI single in the 2nd inning and later walked.

Fleet has delivered quality starts in both his PCL starts. At least by the stats, he has been better in the PCL than he was in the Cal League to start the season. Hembree allowed an earned run in the 9th inning for his 4th blown save and an unearned run in the 10th inning to take his 2nd loss.

AA: Richmond defeated Erie 5-4 (10 innings)

Richmond: DH Joe Panik: 2 for 4, HR, 2B, BB
Richmond: 3B-2B Mark Minicozzi: 2 for 5, HR, SO
Richmond: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 1 for 5, HR, 4 SO
Richmond: PH-RF Jarrett Parker: 1 for 1, HR, HBP

Richmond: SP Chris Gloor: 7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K

The Flying Squirrels went deep four times. In the 1st inning, Panik, who had 7 HRs last year, hit his 1st HR. In the 6th inning, Minicozzi hits his 7th HR, a two-run HR. In the 10th inning, Oropesa's 3rd HR tied the game, and Parker's 11th HR ended the game in walk-off fashion.

Gloor delivered his 5th straight quality start and had a season-high 9 K. After an ERA over 7.00 through his first five starts, he has lowered his season ERA to 4.08 after ten starts.

A+: San Jose lost to Stockton 6-3
(after allowing four runs in the 8th inning)

San Jose: 3B Brock Bond: 0 for 1, 3 BB, SH
San Jose: LF Devin Harris: 2 for 3, HR, 2B, BB

San Jose: SP Ty Blach: 7.0+ IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Harris's 12th HR and 13th double were two of the Giants' five hits. Both he and Bond reached base three times.

Blach allowed just 1 ER through 7.0 IP but then allowed a single, double and a walk to load the bases with no outs in the 8th inning. He departed the game after 86 pitches (59 strikes), and all three baserunners subsequently scored. His ERA rose just above 3.00.

A-: Augusta lost Charleston 8-2

Augusta: 3B Mitchell Delfino: 2 for 4

Augusta: SP Chris Stratton: 5.0 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K--1 WP

With two singles, Delfino was the lone GreenJacket to reach base twice. His OBP remains shy of .300 in his first full pro-season.

Making his tenth start, Stratton allowed new season highs with 11 H and 6 R. His ERA rose to 3.77. At least from a statistical perspective, this start strongly contrasts with his last start when he allowed just 1 H and 0 R in 7.0 IP. His BAA is now .239.

DSL: Gigantes lost to Padres 8-3

Dominican: LF Carlos Cartegena: 1 for 4, 2B, BB, 2 SO
Dominican: RP Remyi Rodriguez: 3.0 IP, 2 BB, 3 K

Cartagena's (19.5 y.o.) double was one of just four hits for the Gigantes. Can't walk off the island? All nine hitters in the Gigantes' lineup drew at least one walk. Rodriguez (18.9 y.o.), the last of the Gigantes pitchers, had 3.0 scoreless IP in his pro debut.
