minor lines, 5/6/13

Monday highlights from the Giants' farm: Brett Pill homered among 3 XBH, and Martin Agosta had 10 K and 1 R in 5.1 IP.

AAA: Fresno defeated Colorado Springs 7-5

Fresno: CF Gary Brown: 2 for 4, SO, 2 SB, E
Fresno: 1B Brett Pill: 3 for 4, HR, 2 2B
Colorado Springs: 2B Charlie Culberson: 2 for 5, HR, SO

Fresno: SP Chris Heston: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K--1 HR, 1 BK
Fresno: RP Heath Hembree: 1.0 IP, 1 BB

Pill had a big game with his 7th HR and 11th and 12 doubles as he drove in five of the Grizzlies' seven runs. Was this the first time this year Brown has had consecutive multiple-hit games? Perhaps not, but it seems like it. With a five-game hitting streak, he has raised his AVG to .205. He also had his 5th and 6th SB. Culberson, the ex-Giant, was the lone Sky Sox hitter with two hits. He led off the 4th inning with his 3rd HR. He has hit .286/.306/.476 through his first 105 AB this year.

Heston matched a season-high with 9 K. He has now allowed exactly 3 ER in six of seven starts, so in that regard he has been remarkably consistent, even if it means an ERA higher than the league average. Hembree pitched a scoreless 9th inning for his 8th save.

AA: Richmond defeated Bowie 6-3
(scoring all six runs in the 1st inning)

Richmond: DH Ryan Lollis: 3 for 5
Richmond: CF Jarrett Parker: 1 for 4, HR, SO

Richmond: SP Jack Snodgrass: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Richmond: RP Omar Javier: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB

With three of the Flying Squirrels' seven hits, Lollis raised his AVG to .236. Parker connected for his 3rd HR--this big fly being a grand slam in the 1st inning.

Snodgrass faced just one batter over the minimum in 3.1 scoreless IP. He left the game after the first batter in the 4th inning grounded out to the pitcher. Javier provided long relief in his longest appearance this year. The 3.2 scoreless IP lowered his ERA to 4.50.

A+: San Jose defeated Rancho Cucamonga 6-5
(scoring the go-ahead run in the 7th inning)

San Jose: CF Elliott Blair: 2 for 5, 2B, 2 SO
San Jose: LF Devin Harris: 1 for 4, HR, SO

San Jose: SP Clayton Blackburn: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K--1 HR, 1 HB
San Jose: RP Cody Hall: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 K
San Jose: RP Bryce Bandilla: 1.0 IP, 1 K

After five homerless games, Harris went deep again, leading off the 5th inning with his organization-leading 10th HR. Blair was the lone Giant with two hits, getting his AVG above the Mendoza line.

Blackburn matched a season-high with 9 K, striking out more than one third (9 of 22) of his batters. He now has almost twice as many strikeouts as hits (42 K and 24 H in 33.0 IP) after six starts. In relief, Hall struck out half of six batters, and Bandilla followed with a perfect 8th inning.

A-: Augusta lost to Asheville 6-2 (7 innings) in game 1

Augusta: LF Rafael Rodriguez: 1 for 3, HR
Augusta: 1B Benjamin Turner: 2 for 3

Augusta: SP Jose Reyes: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K--1 HR, 1 HB, 1 WP
Augusta: RP Ian Gardeck: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 3 K

While Turner was the lone GreenJacket to reach base twice, Rodriguez drove in both of the GreenJackets' runs with his 1st HR.

Reyes had his third straight start with exactly 3 ER. But with just 8.2 IP in those three starts, his ERA has risen above 7.50. Gardeck struck out half of his six batters.

A-: Augusta defeated Asheville 4-1 (7 innings) in game 2
(scoring all four runs in the 1st inning)

Augusta: RF-LF Andrew Cain: 1 for 2, 2B, BB

Augusta: SP Martin Agosta: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 K
Augusta: RP Stephen Johnson: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 K

Cain's 5th double was the GreenJackets' lone XBH. Despite reaching base twice today, his OPS remains below .500 through 56 AB.

Making his sixth start, Agosta set a new career-high with 10 K. He now has more than twice as many strikeouts as hits (45 K and 22 H in 31.1 IP). Johnson struck out half of his six batters.
