minor lines, 5/4/13

Saturday's most notables from the Giants' farm: Carter Jurica, Jarrett Parker, and Mark Minicozzi each had a couple XBH.

AAA: Fresno lost to Colorado Springs 8-3
(allowing five runs in the 4th inning)

Fresno: SS Carter Jurica: 2 for 4, 3B, 2B, SO
Colorado Springs: RF Tim Wheeler: 2 for 3, 3B, 2 BB, CS, E

Fresno: SP Boof Bonser: 3.2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K--2 WP

Jurica's 1st triple and 7th double were two of the Grizzlies' nine hits and their only XBHs. After hitting .300/.365/.407 in 108 AB in the Cal League last year, Jurica has hit .343/.402/.490 through 102 AB this year in the PCL--more impressive considering this is his upper minors debut after skipping double-A. Wheeler, considered one of the Rockies' top 15 prospects, reached base four times. He had a big year in double-A with 33 HRs two years ago but had just 2 HRs last year and has 0 HRs with a SLG below .250 through 82 AB this year.

Allowing over half his batters to reach base (13 of 24), Bonser did not get through the 4th inning. His ERA rose to 4.97.

AA: Richmond defeated Trenton 15-8
(scoring ten runs over the first four innings)

Richmond: 3B Mark Minicozzi: 3 for 5, 2 2B, 2 SO
Richmond: C Andrew Susac: 2 for 5, 2B, PB
Richmond: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 1 for 5, HR, SO
Richmond: RF Jarrett Parker: 2 for 5, 3B, 2B, CS
Trenton: RF Tyler Austin: 2 for 5, HR, SO
Trenton: CF Slade Heathcott: 3 for 5, 2B, SO

Richmond: SP Chris Gloor: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K--1 HR

The Flying Squirrels had 8 XBH, including two each by Parker with his 1st triple and 6th double and by Minicozzi with his 9th and 10th doubles. Oropesa connected for his 2nd HR, and Susac had his 8th double. The Yankees' Heathcott, who is perhaps among the top 100 prospects in the minors, was one of three Thunder hitters with three hits, but his AVG remains below .200. Austin, another top 100 prospect in the Yankees organization, had his 2nd HR.

Gloor matched his season highs with both 7 K and 8 H. With 4+ ER allowed in four of five starts, he has a 6.75 ERA.

A+: San Jose lost to Rancho Cucamonga 6-0

San Jose: 3B Ryan Cavan: 2 for 4

San Jose: SP Adalberto Mejia: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Rancho Cucamonga: SP Garrett Gould: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K--1 HB

Cavan had half of the Giants' four hits (all singles), keeping his AVG above .350. In a poor game for the Giants, they had almost as many errors as baserunners (4 E, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 HB).

Mejia matched a season high with 7 H allowed, but his BAA remains below .250. Gould, who is among the Dodgers' top 30 prospects after they drafted him in the second round four years ago, had his best start of the season. He threw just 75 pitches (56 strikes) in 6.0 scoreless IP.

A-: Augusta defeated Asheville 11-9
(after the game was tied 8-8 entering the 4th inning)

Augusta: 1B Shayne Houck: 3 for 4, BB, SO, E
Augusta: DH Eric Sim: 3 for 5, SO
Asheville: CF David Dahl: 2 for 5, 3B, SB

Augusta: SP Joe Biagini: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 3 K--1 E
Augusta: RP Brandon Farley: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Houck and Sim each had three of the GreenJackets' fourteen hits, raising their respective AVGs to .361 and .206. Dahl, whom the Rockies drafted in the first round a year ago, had his 1st triple and 2nd SB. He was playing in just his eighth Sally League game after spending most of April in extended spring training.

Biagini had his shortest start of the year and his second straight start allowing 6 R. His ERA climbed above 5.50. Farley was the first of three relievers for the GreenJackets.
