Links! I think it's been a week or two. Some of these are old. Really, though, the only one you need is the Jean Machi one.
Bryce Harper annoyed at loss of his Opening Day jersey, clowns are horrible - Baseball Nation
This has nothing to do with the Giants, but it's kind of important that I found one of the worst Google searches in Internet history. Seems like something you should tell your kids when they're old enough.
The Dugout: Jean Machi's Hilarious Farts | With Leather
By the time I get access to Giants video fer GIFfing, everyone's already seen the GIF. So forget it. I'll save them for things like making excuses for Brandon Belt.
I felt bad about ignoring Machi's toot, though. It was a six-leaf clover, and you don't know when it's going to come around again. Luckily, The Dugout did it better than I could have, and they made a chat that'll still make me laugh in a decade.
Who are the Most Valuable Starting Pitchers in Baseball? - Beyond the Box Score
I pulled rankings of starting pitchers out of my backside; Beyond the Box Score brought the science. Madison Bumgarner ranked pretty well -- he would have ranked higher if the WAR park factors weren't so screwy last year. Again, if the choice is that Hector Sanchez, Joaquin Arias, Bumgarner, and Ryan Vogelsong were all pretty close to average last year, or that the park factors were a little fluky, the latter hurts my head less.
Doesn't mean it's true. Hurts my head less, though.
Brandon Crawford On Defense and Familiarity With the Pitcher | FanGraphs Baseball
Eno uses his BBWAA access for more than free hot dogs -- he's consistently getting great interviews with players. Lucky for us, he's local, so we should see a few Giants now and again. This one with Crawford is pretty fascinating.
The Plight of Tim Lincecum's Personal Catcher - Beyond the Box Score
More on HecSan. Ben Lindbergh also took a good look with statz. This is becoming a common thing to look at, so if Sanchez doesn't improve, the abacus twiddlers in the Giants' front office will have to bring it up, if they haven't already. (They probably have already.)
Q&A: Jon Miller, Hall of Fame Broadcaster | FanGraphs Baseball
FanGraphs gives us another good one. I don't spend a lot of time on these dumps. I just go to FanGraphs and rummage around for a bit.
The Top 10 Youngest Players In Each League On Opening Day - BaseballAmerica.com
Nothing for the Giants until you get to San Jose, and then you get 3/5ths of the rotation. Wow.
Roger Ebert Gives Jay Mariotti A Strategically Placed Thumb On His Way Out The Door
Rest in peace, Roger Ebert. I spent a ton of time at his Great Movies page when I was a burgeoning film dork, and his middle finger to Mariotti gives me a quasi-relevant reason to include that link in a sports-related link dump.
