So, I'm writing this post, firmly tongue in cheek. I've been thinking about the Giants needs for awhile, and besides that huge glaring hole in left field, I really feel like they could use another starter, for depth if nothing else. And believe it or not, there's a pretty big name out there who is available. Yes, I'm talking about Kyle Lohse. Now, clearly, there are two pretty big arguments against him, as well as a host of other reasons why he wouldn't be a great choice or a solid fit. But bear with me for a second, and please keep in mind that this post is purely written for speculative purposes. The first big issue is that he's looking for a multi year deal. But I'm pretty sure that with a week left until the end of spring training, that's probably not gonna happen, and certainly not before the draft in June. So if you're Sabean, don't you call up Scott Boras, ask him to take some time off from running hell, and sit down to have a meeting? You offer a one year deal at 8 or 9 million, and a chance to boost his numbers in one of the strongest pitchers parks in baseball, in front of a pretty good defense and a huge crowd every game, and then he can go back out and try to get one more multi year deal. Sort of like Harang or Capuano did the past couple years. Which brings us to the next point. If you sign him to a deal, you're giving up a draft pick. Which I would argue, seeing as the Giants have one of the last picks in the first round of a draft that most experts are calling one of the weakest in years; that a quality starter is worth that draft pick, especially when you're dealing with a rotation that, after the first three (Cain, Bumgarner, and Vogelsong), I don't have a whole lot of faith in. Now I know that most people are saying that Zito could be a perfectly good 4/5 starter again, and that Timmy is due for a comeback, but I would rather hang my hat on a guy who is coming off very solid back to back years transitioning to a park that plays better to his pitching style, and then letting Timmy and Zito battle it out for that final spot, or maybe even pushing Timmy to the bullpen, where he absolutely shined in the postseason. Anyways, I'll state one last time that I know there is absolutely no way that this will ever happen, it was just something I was thinking about. What are you guy's thoughts?
