A New Spring Training Tip (and McWiki reminder)

Aloha_Steve and I have come to Scottsdale a little earlier this year, in pursuit of cooler temps and fewer blowhard drunks in the stands.

New to us this year is the opportunity to watch the Giants practice at Scottsdale, mornings when they are scheduled for an away game. Stadium doors open at 9:30 a.m., it's free, and the players are based on the first-base side of the stadium. They do calisthenics, long-toss, infield and outfield drills, and BP. Today and Wed there were only about a hundred people in the stands watching, which means that you can get right up close and even chat with the players as they're returning to the dugout and walking along the foul-line track.

They don't advertise these open practices, which are much more comprehensive and interesting IHMO than the BP that takes place before games.

This morning Crawford and Scutaro were doing some spectacular clowning plays in the infield - Marco definitely has a second career as a clown if he wants it.

Other highlights include Vogey speaking Japanese with the press who are here to photo Tanaka, and the continuing and hilarious antics of the Panda wherever he is on the field. He, Hunter, and Buster were hitting taters this morning like it was going out of style.

At 11 the players head for the buses and are off to the away game.

There's a McWiki entry for "Spring Training Tips" that you can read/edit/contribute to if you have some ideas to share.
