Giants minor leaguers "okay" after crash

Phew. The early news out of Scottsdale was that four Giants minor leaguers were injured in a serious car accident, including one player who suffered "possibly life-threatening" injuries. Then the reported number of players in the van ballooned to 12, with the life-threatening tag removed.

By all accounts, though, everyone seems to be okay.

I'm guessing "okay" is a relative term, and these tweets are referring to life, not baseball. Back injuries, neck problems, and concussions can develop later. But considering the thoughts that were racing through a lot of minds this morning, "okay" is a pretty damned exciting word to read.

Now we can return to thinking about Brian Wilson on the Dodgers again, which is still gross.

Edit:
Andrew Baggarly reports that all four hospitalized players have been released from the hospital. The players hospitalized were Bryce Bandilla, Daniel Slania, Kelby Tomlinson and Jeff Soptic.

Edit to the edit:
Here's the full statement e-mailed by the Giants:

Earlier this morning a passenger van transporting eleven Giants minor leaguers from the team hotel to the Giants minor league complex at Indian School in Scottsdale, Arizona, was involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident. Giants prospects Bryce Bandilla, Adalberto Mejia, Dan Slania, Jeff Soptic and Kelby Tomlinson were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries. All five players have been released from the hospital and are resting comfortably at the team hotel and will be checked by team doctors over the next 24 hours.

The Giants minor leaguers were just beginning a three-week conditioning camp.
