Wasn't around to give a full appraisal of the September call-ups, but it looks like it was Xavier Nady, Brett Pill, and Jean Machi. Loux, Penny, and Huff coming off the DL don't count. Machi is one of the 14,039 different "if only he could throw strikes" pitchers in baseball, except there's some indication that he's figured something out over the last two years. He throws some pretty nasty stuff, so if he could turn into one of those 30-year-olds that suddenly dominate major-league hitters, that'd be swell. Not likely, but, heck, I've hoped for stupider things. Like an Ikari Warriors movie. I mean, I've already written the spec script. Why won't anyone call me? Hollywood is just the worst.
