Saturday highlights from the Giants' farm: Edwin Escobar had 8.0 scoreless IP, and both Xavier Nady and Jarrett Parker homered while reaching base three times. Also notable, Justin Fitzgerald allowed just a run in 6.0 IP.

AAA: Fresno lost Reno 8-7 (10 innings)

Fresno: LF Xavier Nady: 2 for 4, HR, HBP, SO

Reno: RF Cole Gillespie: 2 for 2, 2 2B, 3 BB

Fresno: SP Andrew Kown: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
Fresno: RP Dan Otero: 1.0 IP, 2 K

LaTorre reached base four times for the Grizzlies. Reaching base three times was Nady, who had his 4th HR. Linden added his 10th HR, and Noonan had his 25th and 26th doubles. The Diamonbacks' Gillespie reached base in all five plate appearances.

Kown had a solid start. Allowing just 2 ER, he improved his ERA to 5.63. Otero pitched a perfect 7th inning.

AA: Richmond lost to Altoona 3-0

Richmond: 3B Daniel Mayora: 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, E

Richmond: SP Justin Fitzgerald: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K--3 WP

Mayora's 24th double was one of just four hits for the Flying Squirrels. He also drew two of their three walks.

Fitzgerald seems to experienced some atypical control issues, but he still allowed 1 ER or less for the eighth time in his last ten starts. His ERA is now 3.20.

A+: San Jose lost to Rancho Cucamonga 11-8

San Jose: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 3 for 5, SO
San Jose: CF Jarrett Parker: 3 for 5, HR, 2B, 2 SO, SB, PO
Rancho Cucamonga: CF Joc Pederson: 2 for 4, HR, SO, SB

San Jose: SP Taylor Rogers: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K--1 HR

Parker had his 15th HR, 18th double, a singles and his 26th SB. Oropesa also had three hits, lifting his AVG to .257. Pederson, who is perhaps the Dodgers' top hitting prospect, had his 18th HR and 24th SB.

Rogers allowed three unearned runs in both the 1st and 3rd innings but just 1 ER otherwise. It was his fourth straight start with 1 ER or less.

A-: Augusta defeated Greensboro 1-0

Augusta: 1B Garrett Buechele: 2 for 3

Augusta: SP Edwin Escobar: 8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K-- 1 HB

Buechele had two of the GreenJackets' four hits (all singles), raising his AVG to .256.

Escobar followed up on his near no-hitter with another start that featured 9 K against just 1 BB in 8.0+ scoreless IP. He has a 2.37 ERA in ten starts since the all-star break.

ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Spokane 5-2

Salem-Keizer: LF Kentrell Hill: 2 for 4
Salem-Keizer: 2B Ryan Jones: 2 for 4, 2B, SO

Salem-Keizer: SP Chris Johnson: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

With two hits each, Hill and Jones had four of the Volcanoes' eight hits, raising their respective AVGs to .277 and .232.

Johnson had his best and longest start of the year.

R: Giants lost to Cubs 8-7

Scottsdale: DH Shayne Houck: 2 for 5, HR, 3 SO

Scottsdale: SP Martin Agosta: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Scottsdale: RP Brandon Allen: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K

Houck had his 4th HR.

Making his fifth start, Agosta allowed career highs with 3 R and 4 H. It was his first time being removed mid-inning. Allen, the second of six rookie Giants relievers, provided effective long relief with 3.0 scoreless IP that got his ERA below 6.00.
