In light of the recent news regarding Melky Cabrera, is anyone else here annoyed by the double standard Lance Armstrong is receiving from the media for cheating? Their reasoning for giving him a pass seems to be: 1) all the money he raised for cancer research; and, 2) he competes in a sport where everyone is juicing anyways.
But I think there are more dubious reasons: 1) he competes in a sport that no one in the US (really the media) cares about; 2) he competes in an competition of individuals as opposed to a team sport so fans aren't going to get too worked up about it; 3) he has a lot of commercial interests (not just nonprofit) and is therefore worth a lot of dinero; and, 4) the media is trying to save face for hyping him all these years.
The thing that really bothers me is the idea the media is propagating that "everybody cheats in cycling". So let me get this straight, that's a legitimate excuse in cycling but not in baseball? All I've got to say is that there have got to be a lot of clean cyclists who are plenty pissed at Lance Armstrong right now.
