It's pretty well-documented that there is such a phenomenon as home field advantage. In addition to the fan support, I think much of the assistance comes from the fact that players are playing in a familiar setting, a comfortable place. The flipside to that is that away games provide unfamiliarity and uncomfortable situations.

2. The incredibly early start on the 4th (add to that the fact that it was east coast time...)
3. Throwback jerseys that made the Giants resemble the Yankees (who some consider to be evil)
