I was recently in a discussion with a friend of mine about how good and useful certain players with a certain OPS are. In the end the discussion evolved into the question "would you rather have a player with a 300OBP and 500 OPS or 500OBP and 300 SLG, or in the more extreme case, 200OPB/600SLG vs 600OPB/200SLG (for arguments sake we decided a 800 OPS would be considered "good" in this discussion

My friend argued he would always pick the player with the superior SLG, but i'd say it would depend on the players place in the lineup which player would be more useful.

I'm curious what others would pick in this discussion, and more importantly, why.
