minor lines, 5/8/12

Highlights from the Giants farm on Tuesday: Home runs were collected by Justin Christian and Roger Kieschnick in Fresno, and Ricky Oropesa in San Jose. Meanwhile, Kelby Tomlinson got on base every time he came up in Augusta.

AAA: Fresno defeated Iowa, 13-2

Fresno: CF Justin Christian: 2-for-5, 1 R, 1 HR (4), 1 RBI, 1 PO

Fresno: RF Roger Kieschnick: 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 HR (8), 1 RBI, 2 SO

Fresno: SP Eric Hacker: 4.2 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR, 1 WP, 1 HBP, L (5-1)

Justin Christian picked up his fourth home run of the year, and first since April 28th. Kieschnick picked up his team-leading eighth home run, and has three in his last nine games. He also has 12 strikeouts and 3 walks in the 38 at-bats over those nine games.

Remember when I asked yesterday if everyone was looking forward to Hacker getting to start today after the rainout? Turns out Iowa was. Hacker gave up more runs in this game than he had all season in AAA (8). His ERA jumped from 2.12 to 4.19.

AA: Richmond and Harrisburg Postponed

That storm moved from Colorado to Pennsylvania fast. Luckily for Fresno, it skipped Iowa. Unluckily for the Squirrels, it will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, July 13th in Harrisburg.

A+: San Jose defeated Modesto 7-6

San Jose: 1B Ricky Oropesa: 2-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B (7), 1 HR (2), 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO

San Jose: C Andrew Susac: 0-for-2, 1 R, 3 BB, 1 E (6)

San Jose: SP Taylor Rogers: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO

San Jose: RP Seth Rosin: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, S (5)

Ricky Oropesa has begun collecting hits, but over the last six games some power has picked up, now with four doubles and a home run. I neglected to mention Andrew Susac's return yesterday. He's now 0-for-6, but has 4 walks in his two games since he returned. But he also has six errors in 21 games.

Taylor Rogers has allowed three earned runs or more three times out of the last four games. Seth Rosin gave up a run, but picked up his fifth save. He now has 19 strikeouts and five walks in 11 2/3 innings.

A-: Augusta defeated Hagerstown 8-1 in 6+ innings

Augusta: SS Kelby Tomlinson: 2-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 SB (9)

Augusta: DH Brett Krill: 2-for-4, 1 2B (3), 2 RBI

Augusta: LF Shawn Payne: 1-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB

Augusta: SP Edwin Escobar: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO, 1 Balk, W (2-1)

In a game that was done before 10 AM Pacific Time, Augusta prevailed and split a series with the city that used to be home to a Giants affiliate. Tomlinson is 5-for-11 with three walks and one strikeout over his last three games, and he boosted his on-base percentage to .360. That happens to match his slugging percentage. Krill broke a four-game hitless streak with his two-hit game. Shawn Payne quietly has collected a hit in seven of the last eight games, (7-for-25), but has also collected 11 walks in that span, at least one in every game.

Esky Escobar has allowed two earned runs or less in each of his five starts this season.
