Angel Villalona reported to have a work visa

http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2012-02-10/former-giants-prospect-angel-villalona-expected-in-camp-after-missing-two-season

Star-divide

I hope that he can still hit after the lat-off but am glad to hear the Sporting News report that he has a visa and is expected in camp. I watched his career early and hoped that he would stick at third base. We are still very long at first but the Giants can always use hitters. Whether he is a future LF, 1st baseman or DH somewhere, it is good news to see that he will be in camp.

Angel?

Are the Giants allowed to have two different “angels” on their 40 man roster? I think there is an obscure rule in the CBA that prevents this.

Yes! I DO have Nate's number tattoed on my ass. It's a long story.

Clickable link.

Does he go to Richmond or does Oropesa go to Augusta? Actually, I guess he could go to Augusta.

Seth Rosin can hit the side of a barn with a baseball. From space.

I'm hoping for Augusta

With Ricky O coming SJ. If Anvil hits in Augusta, they can always bump him to SJ to be the DH.
Not out of the question that they keep him in XST to work off some more rust, too.

That does seem to make the most sense

AnVil is still only 21, so it’s not like he’s crazy old. Oropesa, OTOH, would be too old for Augusta (and certainly unprepared for Richmond).

I kind of like XST, lots of drills for hitting and fielding. Then see where to move him around June. Augusta, as a step down, could bum the guy out or get him flailing for the fences.
Direct to San Jose another possibility, splitting time with Oropesa. Hope one of them moves up during the season.

Marvin Barrios, come on I'll show you your bedroom. Don't stay on the phone too long to Panama, please.

How fat is he?

I suspect he could be very fat by now.

The pic Fla posted he looked pretty good. Who knows though.

Big question. I don’t think anybody has any idea. Did the Giants get grumpy Felipe Alou to go check out their academy?

Hadn't they already given up on 3B before, though?

IIRC, he was a pretty awful 1B as well. It’s hard to put any stock in minor league error totals, but there were enough throwing errors on the middle infielders when Villalona played to think that it wasn’t just their arms.

I suspect he’s a bat-only first baseman nowadays. He was heading that way before the long layoff. On the other hand, maybe time in the clink will make feel motivated to get in shape.
