Season of Kharma

Face it, all of us know with the benefit of hindsight that Zito’s albatross of a contract has been a disaster from an historical perspective. Is it worth it all, given we have two World Titles over the last three years? Yes, without a doubt. Zito has tried to do his best, but it was just a bad contract, and he was not worth the money. Very few, big money, free agent pitcher contracts ever pan out. Look at this season though, Zito pitched well. We open the season with three straight ugly losses in Arizona, and then in Colorado, Zito throws a complete game shutout. WTF? In the series just before the All Star break when we lost 5 of 6 in ugly fashion against the Pirates and Nationals, the only win we got was a Zito start. Zito has owned Atlanta, including a 9 – 0 shutout at Atlanta this year. At St Louis in August, Zito beat Lynn, a precursor for things to come. Of Zito’s 15 wins, he got 4 vs Arizona, 3 vs the Dodgers,2 vs Colorado, 2 vs STL, and 2 vs ATL, 1 vs Pitt. 14 of his 15 wins came against Division opponents or NL contenders. We put the season in his hands three crucial times in the playoffs, twice in elimination games and once to kick off the World Series. He came through every time. I'm thinking each time that I can't believe our fate is in his hands, and he came through. He got redemption this year, and he earned it. Kharma. Zito’s swing? Pathetic. Two playoff hits, two playoff RBI’s. Kharma. Kershaw. Absolutely kicked our butt last year, something like 5 – 0. This year, his starts yielded a 1 – 4 record. Kharma. National writers dismissing our chances? They eat their words? Kharma. Buck and McCarver being Buck and McCarver? Eating their words? Kharma. Holiday with a cheap shot for the ages? Scutaro’s shoves it up his caboose later in the same game with a key RBI, and a dagger through the heart in game 7 in the 10th for the Series winning RBI? Kharma. Cain, drilling Holiday in Game 7? Kharma. Giants beating St Louis in 7? Kharma. Making up for the many final game losses vs St Louis in the playoffs in the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. Kharma. Those lucky bounces, bad hops, breaks we got? Kharma. Fielder of all people we face in the World Series. Fielder ruined the career of catcher Todd Greene. Tried to take out Whiteside too. His grand salami vs Zito a couple of years ago at Milwaukee, and the over dance celebration at the plate? Then the first time we face Fielder the next year, and the payback is being hit by a Zito fastball? No not good enough. Not nearly good enough. Fielder on the losing end in the biggest stage of his life in 2012? Kharma. Paybacks are a beotch. "The horse" signs the big contract? Perfect game? All Star game start and win? NLCS clinch game? World Series Championship game? Sweet Kharma. All those years of great pitchign and poor run support and Cain gets his due, bigtime in 2012.
