There's not much guess-work for the Giants starting rotation in the World Series that begins on Wednesday - especially when compared to the numerous and varied options that Bochy had available to him at the beginning of the NLCS. Bochy is not going to bring back Vogie or Cainer on only 3 days rest, so he's pretty much locked in to the following rotation:
Zito - Timmy - Vogie - Cainer - Zito - Timmy - Vogie
Good news: The Giants will have their hottest pitcher, Vogie, pitching twice (on normal rest) if the series goes 7 games.
Bad news: Vogie won't pitch his first game until the 3rd game of the series, and won't get another start - though he could pitch up to 3 innings in game 5 if the Giants have their backs to the wall and Zito has an early meltdown.
Good news: If the series goes 7 games then Vogie is set to take on Anibal Sanchez who the Giants know from his time o the Marlins - advantage Giants.
Bad news: Justin Verlander would be available to pitch game 7 on 3 days rest if Leyland wants to roll the dice with his best pitcher.
Bad news: Matt Cain will only make 1 start in the series, and that will have to wait until game 4.
Good news: Cainer should be available to pitch up to 3 innings in game 6 if Timmy has an early meltdown.
Bad news: The Giants 2 weakest starters, Zito and Timmy, will be starting the critical games 1, 2, 5, and 6 - against Verlander and Doug Fister - big advantage Tigers.
Good news: Zito will pitch game 1 at home and Timmy will pitch both his starts at home.
