Gary Brown’s worst case scenario is .250 hitter with a poor OBP, flashes of power but no consistent production, 15-20 steals if you give him regular playing time, a solid glove, a long career as a fourth outfielder but doesn’t hold regular status for more than a year or two.

For those that keep an eye on minor league pitchers
Be sure to watch Kickham while he’s down
I came, I saw, I told bad jokes and left.
So that best case scenario for Brown is pretty much guaranteed, right? Good.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
I call him gerald. he’s a pristine white handkerchief, though? nediB eoJ Joe Biden ‽ Joe Biden.
I’m really hoping he comes as close to that as possible. (Well, who doesn’t hope for a player to shine?)
Realistically, I think he really does have a shot. I want to see how he does in the higher levels of the minors before I assume he’ll be a star, but I do really, really like what I’ve seen from him so far.
I came, I saw, I told bad jokes and left.

I would think the only logical choices would be 1B or LF. One of the only other positions I have seen a catcher move to is a relief pitcher.

Third base!
Not that Joseph would necessarily be suited, but quite a few have shifted there. The good hands and reaction time needed for a catcher seem like a fit there.

So he's projected at catcher, but could possibly move to 1B or LF in the future
if/when he arrives in SF in the future
Proud adoptive father of the fastest guy in the Giants system, Jarrett Parker
One of the best moments in Giants history, 11/1/2010
No
Tommy Boy is only slightly faster than Bengie Molina was near the end of his career. He would make you think that Pat The Bat was a gazelle in LF by comparison. Joseph’s only other possible position in the NL (besides catcher) is 1B – and he projects to be a well below-average defender there.

Yeah. It’s basically catcher or nothing for him with the Giants. They have much better opyions than him at 1B.

I’m not sure you, or anybody else, knows that until his names actually starts coming up in trade talks. Sufficed to say other teams know his upside as well. It’s not his upside that will determine whether he’s under or overvalued. It’s teams differing opinions on whether that upside will eventually be realized.
On a sidenote, I kinda feel like any hitting prospect the Giants want to trade should be sent immediately to San Jose so they can pile up numbers.

Meet the new weapon in Cancer Treatment : Re-188-Liposome.

Using Nanotechnology, the drug, when injected into the bloodstream, seeks out blood vessels leading to cancerous cells. Using permeability principle, it accumulates to block nutrient going to cancer cells and releases minute amount of beta radiation to kill it.
It is now in first phase human testing in Taiwan (FDA, obviously, drags its feet in approval for testing in the US). Laboratory testing on mice shows curing of cancer cells in as soon as 3 months with 80% rate of survival.

I just did a Disney cruise a couple weeks ago. It took me a couple days to get used to land again.
We were supposed to go to Mazatlan, but with all of the cartel/bandit problems there, Disney canceled that portion of the cruise and gave us an extra day in Cabo San Lucas instead. I was fine with that. I ♥ Cabo.
Oooh, I've done that cruise!
And don’t worry, you weren’t missing anything in Mazatlan. My least favorite of the three stops. It didn’t help that I went on the kayaking excursion and the waters there had millions of jellyfish at the time.
Plus, the ships themselves have so much to do, I almost wish I had an extra day just to take advantage of everything.

Um.
Going strictly by 2004 RS and 2011 RA (which is obviously flawed because the defenses and run-scoring environment would have been different), the Giants would have had a run differential of +282.
The 2011 Cardinals led the league with 762 runs scored. The 2003 Giants finished second in the league with 850 runs scored.

24 home runs at the age of 40! 376 for his career. The rest of his stats are pretty weak.
Looks like a perfect match for 1987 Carlton Fisk. I’m guessing this was who Taylor was based off of.
Both Taylor and Fisk had 116 hits. Taylor had 71 RBI, and Fisk had 72. Both had 39 walks. Both also had 72 strikeouts. Taylor had 24 homers and Fisk had 23. Both had 22 doubles and one triple. Both had one steal. Both had a .256 BA.
Perfect match.

Yeah, my experience was similar. At a certain point all the dungeons sort of look the same, and your character is good enough that there’s never really a threat of him/her dying. And then you’re just leveling. Worse, At a certain point I was leveling things like smithing and enchanting and alchemy, so I could make truly badass weapons and potions… which felt like leveling so I could later level.

I love the Skills Competition. I mean, mostly for the goalie races and the hardest shot (Chara hit 108.8 MPH this year), but also because they actually show personality for once (Carey Price was a goalie for the breakaway challenge, and instead of trying to make saves he Tebowed or turned around and tried to make the save backwards).
And that there are generally all sorts of ridiculous passing and dangles in the ASG itself is pretty fun to watch. I feel bad for the goalies, though.

See, here’s how well I’ve done with these books— I don’t remember a riddle. And was that Bronn shown as the Sell Sword? All I remember about that book is Arya walking around, Danyears walking around, Sansa getting beaten around (leave Sansa alone!), Rob kicking ass, and Tyrion kicking major ass. That’s it.
But the trailer does look mighty awesome.

I think it’s going to be a bit of a letdown due to budgetary reasons. I mean, they completely nuked the Battle of the Green Fork for similar reasons. I wouldn’t be surprised if Battle of Blackwater basically are a couple of shots on ships and Joffrey commanding a trebuchet.

And what makes this especially exciting is that the episode he’ll be directing is… mine. Yes. He’s going to directing episode nine, “Blackwater.” The Battle of the Blackwater.
I still don’t how the hell we can possibly afford to do half of what I put into that script, but if anyone can pull off my budget-busting battle, it’s Marshall.

Finished Breaking Bad season 4 with the husband, and now I’m watching Gus Fring as a genie on Once Upon a Time.
2012 is going to be awesome!
Man, this sucks.
My parents just called to let me know that one of our two cats somehow snuck out the back door and hasn’t been seen since yesterday morning.

This cat is not particularly intelligent. If it were her brother missing, I’d be much more optimistic. Her reaction when she’s being chased is to roll over and completely expose her belly.
Probably not the best survival technique.
Adopted father of Chris Lincecum, without whom (quite literally) Timmy would not exist.
our cat is really dumb. She will jump the fence to chase a bird or a squirrel, and then not be able to figure out how to get back in. I have to go out and open the gate for her to get back into the yard.
Most of the time she is just sitting there at the gate. Won’t meow, or try to jump over…just sits there.
Adopted Giant: Eddie I Have It Grant.

Yeah, it sounds like they did this, and they combed everywhere in the neighborhood. No signs yet, so we’ll just have to hope that she shows up.

it probably is presented the same
I just happen to know that the model they used to determine eq probabilities in the Bay Area was a local model and not a statewide one. Regardless, it’s not going to look that different from one based off a slightly different model, because what mainly matters is how close to faults you are and what kind of soil you’re on.
That’s awesome. Yea, i remember studying not natural hazards in college, but also doing soil sampling and i did a report on earthquakes in the bay area and how that effects the buildings in every part of the city and the water we get from hetch hetchy

Let’s take a brief westward turn: How about those Saint Mary’s Gaels? Still unbeaten in league play, still rolling on offense, still leaps ahead of their West Coast Conference rivals — particularly BYU, which appears unlikely to factor into the title chase now and needs serious help if it wants to get back to the NCAA tournament. Two things here: (1) Saint Mary’s is one of the most enjoyable teams in the country to watch, and I encourage everyone to do so, and (2) Remember when moving to the WCC was supposed to be elementary for BYU? Not so much, it turns out.

Yup! I remember reading that earlier. I like how everyone thought BYU was going to have a cake walk in the WCC and take down Gonzaga. SUCK IT BYU. They are playing some of the best ball i’ve seen in a long time, actual DEFENSE and actual PASSING. Last night they got careless towards the end, thanks to BYU playing some damn good defense toward the end
Proud adoptive father of the fastest guy in the Giants system, Jarrett Parker

totally agree
a Jimmer-less BYU will have to start reparing if they want to take this conference. What was the point of the move anyway? wasn’t it to move the football team to get better schedule?

They thought they’d dominate, and they got a stud in Davies, but that’s about it. They’ll be good in the conference, and they definitely give SMC and the rest of the conference a little competition making their strength of schedule and RPI much better

Football is independent
Still the father of two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.
"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be." - John Wooden
yeah i know
they are now, but wasn’t them going independent to gain more exposure with bigger games than a conference could provide? What I thought was that BYU wanted to have their football team to basically play the best competition possible, so the basketball team was free to join the WCC. But as you say, the football program is operating independent of the basketball team

I figured that they were mainly concerned wit hthe football program, and then the rest flowed the way it had to for the football program to maximize exposure and money. I don’t really mind as I love BYU being in the WCC, but it’s fun to watch the interior chess game to why these things happen.

ha, seriously, that’ll be the problem, they could possibly play at Oracle or something like that. HP pavilion wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Proud adoptive father of the fastest guy in the Giants system, Jarrett Parker

I think it would be a good money maker as long as it stayed with 2 relevant teams or teams that are close logistically. As you said USF vs Stanford. SMC vs. UC Berkeley. If it’s a huge game, it would almost have to be the winners of both conferences playing 1 last game at Oracle at the end of the year ot help with bids. It would be pretty huge.

Giants executive Tony Siegle: "So much for ‘Moneyball.’ "
…
Siegle, the Giants executive, said he did not read it but heard more than enough about what he perceived as its worship of numbers.
“Statistics are very important. They’re not the be-all and end-all,” said Siegle, who has worked for 23 general managers in his five decades as a major league executive.
“Nothing is going to supplant good scouting, good player development and a good general manager.”
…
The statistical analysts were not kind to the Giants’ front office last season, for assembling a roster made up of what Manager Bruce Bochy called “castoffs and misfits.” The championship apparently did not immunize the front office from allegations of ignorance, supported by statistics.
“We still get that every now and then,” Siegle said. “I have to go back and make sure we still won the World Series.”

I bought 4 shots for us guys that were drinking. I couldnt find them and didnt want to carry the shots anymore. I drank them. I remember finding them and that is about it. I woke up with swim trunks half on with a condom on. I was told I had sex with a girl from brazil and another from tunisia that were rommates. I was told they were cute but I don’t even remember them.

well
I was lazy and didnt want to carry the shots anymore. It’s really perfect drunk logic. The worst? Mezcal. That shit will ruin your life. I drank so much of it one night without eating that I blacked out and ended up at a south african au pair’s house with 8 of her friends and no one else. As soon as I amde sure I had both my kidneys I found out that I was actually in Las Vegas ( i started in LA). On the plus side I was apparently the life of the party.

and yup. I woke up in a different state. I had to use certain tactics to make enough money to gamble so I could buy a plane ride home. It worked over 8 hours and I got home. I wont drink mezcal again (not that it’s a staple of booze in the US). What a night. It was a nice house in Vegas too.

i’ve never actually gotten drunk and ended up in a different state. Apparently you don’t mess around when it comes to drinking. Haha, probably a good idea not to drink mezcal again, if you do, EAT SOMETHING first. I can’t believe you made it through vegas though

in an emergency, I’m the guy you want to see first. I know how to survive bad situations. Not because of some crazy talent, but because I’m a total dumbass and have been through it. I just stay calm. I’m not as crazy now for sure, i love to drink, but never like that again. It’s “fun” when you are 22-23, but when you are 27, you should know how to avoid blacking out and crossing state lines.

vegas
its amazing when you have a place to crash. LAt time i was there I told a group of 5 girls that I would meet them back at the hotel. They took a taxi, and I drunkenly tried to save money by walking. Neeedless to say, I ended up in a bad area, a contstruction zone, way off the strip. I almost got arrested on my way back. My friend got slapped by his gf when we got back at 4 am. We hit the tables after he was laid out by her. I’ve never seen som nay prostitutes at work on a casino floor as that morning.

I’m not proud of it, but I know some ways to make money in vegas that don’t exactly involve table games. In dire situations they come in handy.
Those prostitutes were very aggressive. On top of that, at 4 am, I saw the “changing of the guard” as the morning card dealers came out to replace the overnight ones. The amount of people that came out of the double doors was something to behold.

Dorms, freshman year, roommate was hooking up with the girl upstairs
she came down to our room, i was trying to sleep for an exam the next morning. They just started going at it, and me, not trying to be a jerk, didn’t say a word, but yea… not much sleep that night.
Also my roommate Senior year… came back one night with my girlfriend, and i hear sounds, thought it was from the people upstairs, so i started punching the ceiling because it was 5 AM and they’re going at it. Not to mention TV is really bad right now too
Watched “Luck” last night and thought it was SO BORING.
My DVR is only recording Parks and Rec, Daily Show, and Top Chef right now.
That’s pretty bleak.

Since nothing else is happening in February
I will be wallowing in 2010 baseball highlights.
Wallowing!!
Rolling around in puddles of world sreies and playoff DVDs; splashing myself with the angst contained in the gamethreads of the vanquished.

LOL this is awesome
Jon Heyman, late of Sports Illustrated and Newsday, now of CBS, is a fine baseball reporter. He keeps up with rumors at an impressive clip, and, when he’s not the first with a scoop, he’ll credit whoever had it first on Twitter. Judging by his TV and Twitter personas, he seems reasonable. But he also seems rich. Really rich. We’ve noticed this pattern for some time, but Heyman’s tweet on Saturday afternoon ensured that we would speak our minds:
“Out of element at standard hotel downtown. Just saw model asked concierge where to find best gay clubs. No trade rumors here!”

Today's Weather
Look at this. LOOK AT THIS. Other than some light snow in the northern Rockies, around the Great Lakes, and in upstate New York, everything is pretty damn nice for late January.
There will be some overcast skies today in the Ohio Valley and in southern Texas. Maybe some light showers this afternoon around Brownsville.
For the rest of the nation, unusually warm. Sunny. Fair. Gorgeous. Go out there and bask in the Bustershine.
Our pick city today is good ol’ St. Paul, Minnesota, Joe Mauer’s hometown. Mostly sunny with a high of 40.

Carlos Zambrano
Yonder Alonso

NY Daily News
Chris Mara’s team hammered its way into the Super Bowl. On Tuesday, his daughter was nominated for an Academy Award.
…
His daughter Rooney Mara had joined the family in San Francisco and watched as the Giants beat the 49ers in overtime to win the NFC championship at Candlestick Park. Then, Tuesday morning he watched the Oscar nominations on TV as if he was going through another tense overtime.
…
Both Rooney and his other daughter, Kate, who also is an actress, will be in Indianapolis, as they were in the rain at The Stick.
"Kate is more of the football fan, without a doubt, but Rooney was in the stands in San Francisco watching the game, and that took a lot of bravery," he said. "It’s a rough crowd out there. It’s not like it used to be. But then again, I think she’s learned how to handle herself after the last film," he said, referring to all the violence in "Tattoo."
I’m conflicted. She deserves an Oscar in opinion…..but damn her.
Aubrey Huff: "My body is ripped."
She did a movie that contained violence so she knows about violence!

I think she exited the house and then realized, “oh shit.” And then rather going back in the house (perhaps my dad had closed the door by then?) she hid underneath the deck for shelter. A bowl of food near the deck apparently lured her out, and then my dad spotted her and was able to coax her out from under the deck.
