The fact that everyone with good taste in this sort of thing seems to like it is probably evidence that I’m watching it wrong; it wouldn’t be the first time that it happened. Maybe I’ll get to it over the summer or something.

I’m all for emotional payoff at the end of episodes (Season 1 of Community and Season 3 of Parks and Recreation are two of the best seasons of TV I’ve ever seen, and they were both full of that), but at this point it feels like it’s getting kind of predictable. Plus Leslie/Ben is going from boring to annoying.

I am totally in this line
I had no idea that anyone considered Leslie a normal character. Or dull.
The Ben hate I kinda understand. I think he’s at his best when he can be that dour straight man that he was in the episodes where he was living with April and Andy and had to teach them how to not eat their food off of frisbees. Now that he’s with Leslie, his reason for being dour is kinda gone, so he just comes off as an unfun character.

i hope they really do something more with her once she wins/loses the election. So many way you can go with that. I just feel that her character has become stagnant despite progression of storyline. While you might be right about the others, they aren’t Leslie. I think there is so much potential in her character that they are either building up to, or they just prefer to ignore it. Chris Lincecum on Murph & Mac
http://murphmac.blogspot.com/2012/01/0126-tim-lincecums-father-chris.html
Chris Lincecum says he doesn’t know whether Tim “go somewhere else if he got a better deal and the team was maybe not doing as well”. He says Timmy has no problem staying with the Giants his whole career but says “he’d be foolish to waste those free-agent years”. Chris also says Timmy was a 187 pounds at the end of last season compared to the 165 he’s been in the past. He’s now weighing around 170-175 pounds, where Chris would like him to be.
The segment starts off with a audio clip of Mike Krukow saying that in his conversations with Tim Lincecum, Timmy has told him “he doesn’t want to leave San Francisco”.
Aubrey Huff: "My body is ripped."
Timmy has told him "he doesn’t want to leave San Francisco".
Except in the off season, when he lives in Seattle.
The way he’s negotiated pretty transparently indicates that he wants to test the FA market, it just happens that he and his agent are smart enough not to come out and say it.
VAE PVTO DEVS FIO
I guess
He negotiated a limited no trade clause, not like he wants to bolt.
I think Tim likes SF, but is undecided. Considering he is making 60-70 mil before he even hits free agency, he has more flexibility than say Pablo, who will have made only 20 mil by about that point. His making so much money, gives him a lot of flexibility.
I hope for a great year, the type that will make him want to be a Giant forever.

30 Rock definitely has a unique style and since it’s on S6 the style is becoming a little too obvious and somewhat tired so there’s that. And it’s veered off from whatever reality it had in the early seasons and become even broader than it was before so there’s that too. Since S3 or so, the show’s been hit or miss- some episodes are laugh out loud funny, some just make you smile occasionally but there was a lot in both of tonight’s episodes that had me cracking up. I mean, I thought random appearances by the Phillly Phanatic, Kristin Bell, and Liz Lemon II were hilarious

Listening to Baggarly and Schulman on Fitz & Brooks podcast
Baggarly buys into the whole Sabean idea that the offense will bounce back because it can’t get any worse. The hope being that the offense will be average like it was in 2010. Pagan and Cabrera make the top of the lineup more dynamic. He says he went back and looked at the stats for the last 36 years and found that the Giants batting average of .174 with two outs and runners in scoring is the worst since that time. The 600 times the Giants batted in that situation equates to a full season for an everyday player. That means that certain starting pitchers on team had better overall batting averages.
Schulman on the other hand seems cautious. He believes the Giants lack depth at most positions. He’s bullish on Melky Cabrera and buys into the whole “best shape of his life” thing. He also buys into the whole spreading the payroll around idea. He sees parallels between this season and 1997, when the Giants traded Matt Williams and acquired Jeff Kent and JT Snow.

My problem with the "The offense will improve because it can't get worse" defense
Is the"you can say the same about the pitching, but in the opposite direction" rejoinder.
For every bit of misfortune they had on offense last season, they’ve been paid back in triplicate with healthy pitching over the last few seasons.
VAE PVTO DEVS FIO
We’ve had some share of pitching injuries over the past two seasons… They’ve just only happened to our shitty pitchers.
Medders, Wellemeyer, Ray, Runzler, Zito, Sanchez.
Obviously that remarkable string of luck isn’t exactly something to count on either, nor is Wellemeyer and Zito turning into Bumgarner and Vogelsong.
Then the end of last season rolled around, and Affeldt, Romo, and Wilson all went down. I also suspect that Lopez had an unreported injury.

Like I said, good luck.
It’s astonishing how many injuries (in 2010 particularly, but even with Vogelsong last year) lead to superior bench player usurping inferior starters.
VAE PVTO DEVS FIO
I see this, and good Huff/bad Huff, as the only real differences between 2010 and 2011.
In 2010 we had Torres, Uribe, Bumgarner, Burrell, Ross. All replacements for injured starters, all contribute above expectation and outproduce the starter.
In 2011 we had Cabrera, Fontenot, Burris, Keppinger, Whiteside/Stewart, Voggy, Beltran. Only Vogglesong really stepped up.
In both years, we relied heavily on replacement players. In 2010 it was magic. in 2011, not so much.
Finally a signature worth having:
Fan of the World Champion San Francisco Giants.
I also think it is not luck that our core pitchers have been injury free. The FO has invested in very young work horses. The Giants do not have old broken mares. Even Zito, the old man in the group, has been an example of durability. I would expect us to be on the positive side of injuries in the starting rotation. I see this as more good design than luck. Flip side of that coin, if you invest in FSanchez and MDeRosa you have to expect your MI will need some depth.
Finally a signature worth having:

Krukow on Murph & Mac
Says that because Timmy doesn’t have a wife and kid like Cain, he “doesn’t mind rolling the dice” so he can maximize his earning power instead of taking security in the form of a five year deal that the Giants offered him. Krukow says Timmy’s a “different cat” than other players. He also says that players like Timmy “feel a lot of pressure” from the players association to maximize earning power. Andrew Baggarly also said in his discussion with Fitz & Brooks that players have a “responsibility drilled” in their head by the players association to raise the bar for comparable players.
Krukow believes both Timmy and Cain will stay Giants.

Like, is that the reason Werth signed with the Nationals because it made no sense at the time and did Pujols really want to leave St. Louis?

Quote from my adopted son Mike Krukow: "We're the Giants. We're San Francisco. And we're World Series Champions!"
Its a flawed mentality to start with...
Why are the rangers considered one of the great teams? They have a question mark with Yu, Hamilton can’t stay healthy, their closer is now a starter, Young is Young and he ain’t young, Andrus can’t hit, and Mitch Moreland is their first baseman.
Also, what have the Sox done to improve this year? Their offense is amazing but they traded away Scuturo and Lowery and haven’t done anything to improve the pitching staff.
I’ll give you that the Yankee’s, Angels, Tigers (LOL DEFENSE) and Rays are scary teams.

LOL
The all-time hit king before Rose played for seven thousand years and beat his record (and his career .366 average is still the best ever), Cobb was also a demon on the basepaths, stealing somewhere north of 800 bases in his career, which is good for fourth on the all time list–and 2-3-4 on the list are bunched up fairly close together. Lou Brock in second has 938, Billy Hamilton in third has 912, and Ty in fourth has 892. Of course, Rickey Henderson swiped 1406 because he was a mother fucking base stealing MACHINE sent from the future to steal our bases.
But we’re here to talk about Ty Cobb. And part of the reason he was so good at stealing bases wasn’t just because he was fast (although he was). It was because he’d spike the shit out of you if you got in his way.

Cobb was smart
He would run the bases aggressively in blowouts, in attempt to put fear in fielders for times when the game was tight.
He batted with his hands apart, not together. In the deadball era, it would have sucked his power away, but it gave him better bat control for sure. His lifetime BA is incredible. First ballot HOF (Christy Matthewson was too).
Cobb would have been really fun to watch. What I read about him, his mind played at a level above everyone else.

They’re good enough for us! Let’s follow through and see if we can find a spare Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee lying around. The Cub methond—→Success!

Yah i remember this
Quote from my adopted son Mike Krukow: "We're the Giants. We're San Francisco. And we're World Series Champions!"
tellthestorysfgiants
Or whatever his name is. And yeah, he didn’t call it, he just said he wanted to see it happen because he “has a fetish for OBP.”
Then he talked about Brendan Ryan.

Apparently the Giants are trying to corner the market on members of the 2000 LSU baseball team who also played at one point for the Chicago Cubs

The Phillies have signed Juan Pierre to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to Spring Training, the team announced. Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com first reported the deal (on Twitter). SFX represents Pierre, who joins a left field mix that includes John Mayberry, Laynce Nix and Domonic Brown.
In 711 PA last year, Pierre had a rWAR of 0.0.

They were friends
And had their best years when on the same team. I like the move, especially since it was cheap. Also, I was NOT looking forward to Burriss at bats. I hope this means I don’t have to.

He got booted from SS because the Cardinals went out and got Furcal, despite the fact that before the season TLR said he was fine with Theriot at short and didn’t care if he was a butcher.
It was that bad.
