I pretty much agree with all of his letter grades. Nice list.
I wonder if they might try Marlowe as a starter. Seems to have the stuff for it and with our lack of SP inventory I’d be trying every live arm in the system as a starter right. Heck I’d give Hembree a look as a starter. Couldn’t hurt, except I know he’s in the big league plans for 2012’s bullpen.
Marlowe is interesting
His K/BB from college is hilarious. I’d be willing to give him a look in the rotation though. I also don’t understand why they never tried Dunnington in the rotation-he went from HS to the bullpen

Jacob’s still pretty skinny and thin. Reportedly he’s still only about 160 pounds – and that’s after putting on almost 20 pounds since he turned pro back in Sept. 2009. Maybe they just don’t think that he can hold up to a full season throwing 200 innings and starting every 5th day?

“They” seem to think that alot. I remember when they thought that about Pedro Martinez and Tim Lincecum.
Right. Jacob doesn’t turn 21 until next month, so he’s still got time to put on a bit more muscle and to develop into a starter if they let him try. That being said, I’ve never even seen video of him pitching, so maybe he’s got a really max-effort delivery that makes the Giants think that he can’t keep his velocity for more than a few innings at a time.

And not without some reason
Thin pitchers have a lower survival rate than ones with “normal” or fat builds.

Sure but why would a team developing a pitcher necessarily care about their survival rate. When it comes to homegrown talent the cost-controlled years are the only ones that matter.
That said, I’m not sure that Pedro vs Schilling comparison they tossed off is all that appropriate.
Wheeler is also B+
although Sickels said he would rank him above Brown “without question”.

Proud adopted parent of the ball dudes, who have grounded into 109 fewer double plays than the Giants.
An interesting list, and I would agree with shankbone’s terming of it as “hard but fair grades.”
Not a ton of premium talent (since it’s already in the majors), but a number of players who project to be solid regulars. I think it also indicates a strong draft for the Giants despite being so low on the queue, something else I would agree with.
It’s nice to see someone actually thinks Panik could be an SS, though my suspicion remains that he winds up taking 2B from Freddy after a stopgap or two.
You keep calling in Affeldt. I don't think that means what you think it means.
Well, really, the way his grading system works, I’d say there’s only two players there who he would say “project to be solid regulars,” with 5 others having some potential to develop to that point but enough question marks that you can’t quite project that outcome.
I am giving the benefit of the doubt to the draft class at this point; I’m aware of how the grading works. The commentary on catching depth in particular is what I took away; the position players remain a bit lackluster outside of Brown and Panik, but that’s nothing new to our farm system.
"I see these guys walking around with rings on, and I want one. That's what it's all about." -Ryan Vogelsong
But I don’t think anyone in the draft class at this point can be said to project as a solid regular. Panik and Susac are the only ones I think you can even give that benefit of the doubt to and both have are players that have significant doubters out there. I think Keith Law right now would say we don’t have a player that he would project to be a starter on a decent team.
I know nothing about Crick
But Sickles description reminds me of the guy who once blowed up the Death Star.

Sure , blame the Wookie.
Just trying to gruntle my Giants baseball Jones in the least destructive way available.
2010 was just a dream.can I have another please?

Lots of C grade depth in the lower minors
In his Preliminary Prospect List post for the Giants, Sickels had the following answer to a poster that described the system as “thin”:
it’s not that bad. A lot of the Grade C types have potential but are just far away
