The fight continues

A rollercoaster ride.

The Giants took  fans on a glorious ride last year and when the year ended and the team won it's first WS Title in SF. The ups and downs of a baseball season imitate life in a certain way. People go through injuries, winning and losing streaks and the daily grind .

The 2011 season has been a tough year as the Giants have run into the perfect storm but they have been fighting the waves in a attempt to make it home safe. The injuries have mounted with their leader Buster Posey going down in a horrible mess at home plate. Posey is the Peyton Manning of the Giants. When he left you had the feeling that a WS Title was all but gone. He was our best hitter and also the most important defensive player on the team. Posey has a aura that surrounds him and his spirit surely has been missed.

The Giants gutted it out but Whiteside and Stewert to be honest are not MLB starters. The Giants never got a catcher to fill in the gap. When F. Sanchez went down it almost felt like all the good karma from last year was going to have to be repayed to the karma tax man. To the Giants credit they never gave up but with all the injuries and the long post season this season was starting to catch up with them. When August hit the players simply ran out of gas.

It felt like everyone hit E on the gas meter at the same time. There is a reason no one has repeated a WS Title from the NL since the Big Red Machine in 1975-76. The grind of winning the title wears down the body and mind for the following year. I have been surprised how well  the pitching has held up so far but the position players seemed to blow their load last year with many having a career year.

This has been a rocky rollercoaster year but the Giants have fought hard to repeat. With 23 games left in the season and being 6 games back the season is not over. When this team was whole as a unit they marched through the playoffs with a fun spirit and left everything out on the field. The grind this year has taken it's toll but the fight in the dog is still there. The Giants taught us how to believe last year and we owe it to them as fans that there is still time left to make the playoffs. Down the line all the injuries and the adversity they have been through will bring another WS Title to San Francisco. The odds may not be with them this year but adversity matures you and makes you tougher for years to come.

They have fought the good fight this year and I am proud to be a Giants fan. Sunday the Giants look to cut the gap to 5 games and the fans will be there standing and roaring for one last push to the playoffs. The rollercoaster is still on the tracks. Hold on tight here we go.

Go Giants !!
