LOL Yankees?
Just got back from HSB Day 1. Had to, because the night is beautiful: cool, still, clear, a sickle moon hanging in the sky, Conor Oberst bouncing around on stage like a Muppet on mescaline
I rhyme with freak.
Since I wanted to start this discussion in the previous thread, let's discuss: RICKEY HENDERSON
Sure he was cocky as hell, but was he ever really a venomous presence, by just being matter of factly about his greatness?
It’s a damn shame he isn’t discussed nearly as much as the great pitchers and sluggers of his era, because what he did was a hell of a lot tougher given the ’roids, and I bet he could still steal 15 bases leading off for someone today.
Rickey would agree about what you’re saying about Rickey
by Dingoes Ate My Baby on Sep 30, 2011 7:32 PM PDT up reply actions
I just think of that attitude and how it was frowned upon
and compare it to so many other smug athletes who’ve come through over the years I’ve been following sports, and how many of them seemingly would do anything rather than just play. They had to forcibly remove Rickey from the damn sport, and I honestly think he could’ve still played somewhere in the majors.
To put it another way, if you were to just randomly bring up Ben Roethlisberger, he’d probably be treated more favorably than Rickey Henderson.
In picking one's all-time lineup,
Rickey, Barry, and Ted make for a hell of a decision in left field.

good choice
I wish I had some less-empty everyday bottles. All the sealed ones need to stay sealed.
yeah, it’s sealed, but the only open scotch I have is Ballantine’s, which appears to be crap, according to GIS. All my whiskey was left from my parents. Not a scotch drinker, so wish me luck, I hope I like it.

Glenfarclas is very likeable
reasonably good value, too
I got a Glenlivet 15 ’cuz it was on sale last month. Not so great. I think I actually like Glenlivet 12 more.

I’m not a fan of the 12, but the 18 isn’t bad if you forget that you can buy better things for the money. Haven’t tried the 15.
Glenmorangie 10s are pretty dull. The ‘wood expression’ 12s are okay.
Whenever I go to the store I always forget which Glenxxxx you recommended and I don’t want to get the wrong one. Gotta write it down.

Yeah, I fill my little tumbler about 1/3 full or so, which works out to 2 ounces, perhaps a shade more. Then I drop in an ice cube.

That, as I said, is the beginner tradition. I do about a 1.5oz pour, then a very small splash of room-temp water.
I’m a beginner. Sort of. I used to use two ice cubes.

This is an important point
Willingham and Cuddyer are interesting potential acquisitions, but both are projected to be type A, and I don’t think either is worth the draft pick. I’d only give up a draft pick for Reyes or Rollins.

He's good at managing pitchers
Didn’t show much this past month, and I’m not saying he’s great, but he’s the antithesis of what I spent witnessing most of my life with the Giants.

Whoa, looking at Cal Ripken makes me feel sad and old
The first six innings are overrated.
You shouldn't. He rules
Still rules and always will rule.
He looked old even when he was still playing.
And as I mentioned in the other thread, when my summe rcamp was dragged to go to an A’s game against the Orioles during a summer (I did so under protest) Cal stuck around to sign autographs and talk to all of us kids. He’s a champ as far as i’m concerned.
If I ever got a homerun ball in the bleachers, I sure as hell wouldn't throw it back.

rain would've been postponed had we made the playoffs
proud son of greatgiantfan; b. Apr 29, 2009, d. Jul 30, 2010.
hold on
According to a rule adopted by Major League Baseball two years ago, the game is not postponed. Instead, it will pick up Saturday night at the point of suspension—weather permitting—with the Yankees coming to bat in the second inning. The forecast calls for rain through late Saturday night.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said rookie Ivan Nova(notes) will start Saturday. He had been slated to go in Game 2, which was moved back to Sunday at 3:07 p.m., a scheduled day off in the best-of-five American League series.
…
Doug Fister(notes), the Tigers’ scheduled starter for Game 2, will pitch when Game 1 resumes.
From here. So Ivanova and Fister, the Game 2 starters, will “start” in the resumed game tomorrow night.
All right, I’ll be the idiot to ask: why can’t both Verlander and Sabathia just pick up again tomorrow night?
Think of tonight as an extended BP
They’ll want both of their Aces fresh and ready to go for what I’m assuming will be Game 2, since starting the whole process again tomorrow wouldn’t be the best move.
Because of the cycle they go through
building up to their scheduled day. You know how big a deal it is when a football team plays the Thursday Thanksgiving Day game after playing four days earlier? It’s like that.

lil news update
Ryan White, the 9-year-old Phillies fan who was critically hurt by a hit-and-run driver after a game in San Francisco, will help with the ceremonial first pitch for the team’s opening playoff game on Saturday.
Ryan and his brother, Kevin, 12, will take the ball to the pitcher’s mound at Citizens Bank Park for former Phillies infielder Dave Cash to throw out the first pitch, Roseanne White said Friday. She and her husband also will be at the game, which is scheduled to start about 5 p.m.
