LOL Yankees?

Just got back from HSB Day 1. Had to, because the night is beautiful: cool, still, clear, a sickle moon hanging in the sky, Conor Oberst bouncing around on stage like a Muppet on mescaline

I rhyme with freak.

Since I wanted to start this discussion in the previous thread, let's discuss: RICKEY HENDERSON

Sure he was cocky as hell, but was he ever really a venomous presence, by just being matter of factly about his greatness?

It’s a damn shame he isn’t discussed nearly as much as the great pitchers and sluggers of his era, because what he did was a hell of a lot tougher given the ’roids, and I bet he could still steal 15 bases leading off for someone today.

by Cap M on Sep 30, 2011 7:30 PM PDT reply actions

I just think of that attitude and how it was frowned upon

and compare it to so many other smug athletes who’ve come through over the years I’ve been following sports, and how many of them seemingly would do anything rather than just play. They had to forcibly remove Rickey from the damn sport, and I honestly think he could’ve still played somewhere in the majors.

To put it another way, if you were to just randomly bring up Ben Roethlisberger, he’d probably be treated more favorably than Rickey Henderson.

In picking one's all-time lineup,

Rickey, Barry, and Ted make for a hell of a decision in left field.

hold on

According to a rule adopted by Major League Baseball two years ago, the game is not postponed. Instead, it will pick up Saturday night at the point of suspension—weather permitting—with the Yankees coming to bat in the second inning. The forecast calls for rain through late Saturday night.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said rookie Ivan Nova(notes) will start Saturday. He had been slated to go in Game 2, which was moved back to Sunday at 3:07 p.m., a scheduled day off in the best-of-five American League series.

Doug Fister(notes), the Tigers’ scheduled starter for Game 2, will pitch when Game 1 resumes.

From here. So Ivanova and Fister, the Game 2 starters, will “start” in the resumed game tomorrow night.

All right, I’ll be the idiot to ask: why can’t both Verlander and Sabathia just pick up again tomorrow night?

by non sequitur on Sep 30, 2011 8:03 PM PDT reply actions

Think of tonight as an extended BP

They’ll want both of their Aces fresh and ready to go for what I’m assuming will be Game 2, since starting the whole process again tomorrow wouldn’t be the best move.

Ryan White, the 9-year-old Phillies fan who was critically hurt by a hit-and-run driver after a game in San Francisco, will help with the ceremonial first pitch for the team’s opening playoff game on Saturday.

Ryan and his brother, Kevin, 12, will take the ball to the pitcher’s mound at Citizens Bank Park for former Phillies infielder Dave Cash to throw out the first pitch, Roseanne White said Friday. She and her husband also will be at the game, which is scheduled to start about 5 p.m.

I have Lohse expectations.

Gigante. Campeón. Pumpkin. Andrés Torres.
Dursh nerf darsh narf. Poop.
He's really good! He's an injury risk! But he's really good! But he'll be expensive! But he's really good! But he's an injury risk!

I'm watching NLCS Game 6

They were doing player intros and Freddy Sanchez said his favorite team growing up was the Dodgers!

Renteria also said his favorite player but I couldn’t understand what he was saying…anyone know?

There's a First for Everything:
Edgar Renteria, The First World Series MVP in Giants History.

Buster Olney

Speculating that Bochy should be one of the candidates for the Red Sox job. Can we trade him for a SS/CF?
