Winning the first game of a series and waiting too long for vets to come around

My take on the 2011 season.

Setting the tone for a series has always been important to a winning season. The Giants have now lost the first game in their last 12 series. The hole has been dug and now they look to dig out in the month of September. Friday's game is the most important of the 2011 season. The Giants need to break that losing cycle of dropping the first game of a series. If they win friday that momentum might just get them going and with some luck and some good play to propel them to a sweep over Arizona and back in the West race.

The Giants played their best game of the month of August on the last day of the month. The shake up seemed to work on some level but did it happen to late. Sabean almost waited too long to bring in Posey last season and got lucky with the late pick ups to get them into the winners circle. He also got lucky that San Diego choked the West away. This year his ego got in the way waiting for the players that got him that ring to come around and perform and it bit him in the ass.

Sabean sat on his three or four game lead all year and was stubborn to put the other teams away by not  bringing in younger players with fresh legs. When the team was starting to get tired and finally gave up the lead to Arizona he refused to shake up the team. Yes he added Beltran , Keppinger, and Cabrera but the rest of the team except Sandoval were dead tired and also felt the pressure to repeat with sell out crowds watching each night.

The decision to let Showtime in the clubhouse was also a mistake and I don't care if they made themselves invisible. People can smell a camera from miles around and in this media frenzy of reality shows which have destroyed  peoples and familys lives, a TV show was the last thing this team needed. You can not tell me that the TV show had no effect on the chemestry invading a place of sancuary for players. The scenes with Ross and Wilson playing a joke on Huff losing his credit card look staged for the cameras. Instead of preparing for the game Ross is seen in the laundry room with a Giants employee planning the joke like they were Pauly D. and Vinny from the Jersey Shore.

The year has been filled with injuries but ego's gone wild have also cost this team. Time is running out and winning that first game of the Arizona series will be a good start to trying to dig out of a huge hole the Giants dug for themselves. Depending on another team to choke in September again is not a good way of defending a title.

Go Giants!!
